In a recent video speech, the Venezuelan president admitted to chewing the Coca plant every day. Coca is the plant from which cocaine is extracted.
In the video he says "I chew coca every day in the morning . . . and look how I am," while showing the audience his biceps. Analysts have said it can be interpreted as a dangerous endorsement of the banned substance worldwide.
A political analyst in the country's capital said "It is another symptom that [Chávez] has totally lost the concept of limits" and "It shows Chávez is a man out of control."
'The Crown' hates the truth. A little bit of this and a little bit of that makes for a strong and happy life. Only don't break the Big Ten, if you know what I mean. God Bless Hugo Chavez. Here is a man who had the cojones to cross himself whilst speaking publicly in Arabia. A real Hero. When he joked there was the smell of sulfer after the appearance of GWBush at the UN, the majority of the delegates laughed and agreed. Brass nuezos and a great sense of humor too. Raise your glass people, VIVA CHAVEZ!
Let's not confuse things here, chewing on the coca plant is NOTHING like doing actual cocaine, in fact, many people used the plant way before cocaine was created because it helps them deal with the effects of living in such high altitudes.
I rather have a politician who chews coca leaves everyday, then one who claim to talk to an imaginary friend everyday & claim it tells him to send tens of thousand to their deaths.
At least any madness Chavez may have can be explain, other politician's madness can't
Coca leaves have been chewed for centuries in South America. The effects are similar to a strong cup of coffee. All this story shows is how petty his opposition is that they'd blow something like this up into a confession of being a cokehead. You need to watch this clip to fully understand how stupid these people are. They not only accuse Chavez of doing coke out of pure ignorance, but then accused Sean Penn, Danny Glover, Naomi Campbell, Oliver Stone, and Kevin Spacey of being coke addicts as well for their political beliefs. That’s some mighty fine reporting there.
OK, I just reviewed the UN speech in question. It is unfortunate the video soundtrack only offers the translator's voice. There are however bits of gallery sound provided. When Hugo accuses bush of being the Devil the reaction seems to be staid. More importantly, the gallery listened intently and politely to Hugo's entire 25 minute speech. At the end, there was enthusiastic applause. This was not a derisive gesture. I believe bush and the new america, stand low in world opinion. Hugo is a clear voice for popular improvement. Working people are in desperate need of liberal(free) leadership. Hugo is the best voice in opposition to the american empire. Real Americans, those who voted in the democrats, have been repudiated by the ruling elite. It is an empire of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich. I could go on but by popular demand, I will shut up now.
What you fail to realize is that no matter how 'bad' bush or the 'empire' might be, doesnt make it right for Chavez to go in front the world and behave in such a childish way, they are other ways, more civilized ways in which he could have go about denouncing Bush and his tactics, furthermore the mere fact that the others members laughed as you said goes to show the type of people that are in the UN,
Chavez insulting world leaders in nothing to be proud of,
Here is a guy who insulted the Mexican president, the former spanish president, caribbean leaders, he insults everybody who opposes him, Is that someone to lookup to? Is that something to be proud of?
have not posted anything of intrinsic value to this topic, or any other topic on Shortnews since you signed up, just a barrage of insults and hate filled diatribes about the US, which is also silly and childish, I can understand peoples hatred of the american govt, but what I cant understand is people like you who just go about posting nonsense, about the country when millions of people in the US oppose the govt, I get really annoyed at that, Im in the US and Im not a fan of bush or his policies.
Have a great day. Honest to Heaven your last comment could have come right out of the mouths of those guys on the above video. I sure appreciate your criticism, and the insult, I will try to stop insulting President Bush, He is a Great Man. Over a million people in Iraq would agree with me if they were not stone dead. Peace.
Just reviewed the 'Devil' speech w/sound. The response was much muttering with a smattering of applause. No laughing actually. Enough said, Over and Out.
The reason Chavez behaves so childish is because he doesn't believe he's above the ppl and he doesn't believe on all the stupid useless protocols that most politians around the world use.
Chavez has, many many times, lowered himself to the ppl and talked to them like if they were one of his own. You do not need to be a huge famous powerful person to get to him, just a regular worker who loves the country.
Hell, Chavez even invited the family of the FARC hostage (who were staying in Venezuela while the exchange was going on) to spend Christmas with him at the presidential house. Hell not even Uribe would do that.
Chavez may be childsih but he has the right idea, politians are put there BY THE PPL and work FOR THE PPL. You tell me of any other president that lowers himself to the ppl and allows anybody to talk to him/her.
After all the bad deeds done by the Bush administration, the attack dogs are sicced on Chavez, a man who seems to have improved living conditions in his country, because he's "rude." I'm reminded of a Bible lesson involving a mote and a beam.
- Food and mil shortages: false. There's plenty of food in any super market, and regarding the milk it's only some places who WILL NOT sell you milk under the false pretext that they don't have any. What happened to the milk is that it was being sold to expensive by the private sector that the goverment issued a law to regulate the price. In response, all the supermarkets won't sell milk saying 'they don't have any' until the goverment releases the fix.
- Unemployement: there are jobs in here; ppl don't get them because they earn more money by working informally or ilegally.
- Inflation: true, there is, and there should not be any reason for it to exists.
Chavez has done many good things for the country dude. Just because a US paper doesn't write about them, doesn't mean in never happened.
Ha Ha Ha. Hugo is pressing on and here is the Associated Press report. All of the insults play on deaf ears. Hugo is a trooper for human rights. http://ap.google.com/
but then I got high. I was gonna rewrite the constitution but then I got high. My reforms failed on a popular vote and I know why. Because I got high. Because I got high. Because I got high.
That's what makes this news, I guess. The Fox Flunkies are the worst example, but this even making news is pathetic. Enough's already been said about the misleading nature of this, so I'll leave it at that.
Look one can choose to believe the anti-Chavez baloney spewed from the likes of the Miami herald and Washington if you like . But if you are really serious about keeping an eye on events in Venezuela I suggest you look at the polls (the serious ones not the US gov polls) Perhaps the most prestigious polling firm when dealing with South America is Latinobarometro. It’s a non-profit NGO Corporacion and it’s latest study on Venezuela speaks volumes. Also there is one American here on sn who in fact moved to Venezuela and has a blog of his daily life there if you’re interested.
Here’s the Latinobarometro study.
http://www.vicuk.org/ I see you say you don’t support Bush and his cronies and I can fully understand that . Supporting what has perhaps become one of the worst Presidents in US history (and there are a lot to chose from ) is becoming increasingly difficult I fell you have taken to attacking Chavez armed with nothing more than US media reports about him as some sort of defense for your own country . You know if I were being fed news reports about milk shortages in Venezuela and wasn’t told that “yeah it’s in short supply BUT it’s consumption has increased five fold” I would start to question my media and not the democratically elected president of Venezuela and I would certainly be more cautious on believing anything that came out of that media in the future.
