Call for UK Public Schools to be Abolished

Alan Bennett the 73-year-old playwright has spoken out at the British public school system calling for it to be abolished.

Speaking on BBC Radio's Today Programme Bennett said "It is the fact that you can buy advantages for your children over and above their abilities, which seems to me to be wrong.”

He went on to compare the British system to that found in France saying in France state schools offered a superior education and pupils competed on grades for entrance.

	Equal opportunity.
	Public schools in england are called private schools in the rest of the world, fyi. Its schoolchildren that go to the schools, so it's hardly the parent's prerogative or right to "choose". Even if it is, its only those that can afford it that get the option and therein lies the argument.
