College Basketball Coach Collects 110,000 Pairs of Shoes for African Kids

Indiana: IUPUI basketball coach Ron Hunter has gone barefoot during a game with the University of Oklahoma to collect shoes for African kids. Hunter, who tends to pace, admitted he was left footsore but pointed out that many children never own shoes.

His aim of 40,000 pairs was quickly met and passed with Wal-Mart donating 25,000, Nine West 5,200, Soles4Souls 40,000, and the Department of Homeland Security donating 10,000 and indicating they may increase their donation.

"When we started this I thought 40,000 was going to be tough. When they told me before the game we already had 100,000, honestly, I almost broke down in tears," said Hunter, who plans to travel to Cameroon to distribute the shoes.

  Please Get It Right
Its University of Oklahoma, not Oklahoma University, despite what OU may seem like.

  Its the thought that counts.
Half will end up on the feet of people who can afford shoes anyway.
The other half will end up on the black market.
Local shoe-makers and sellers will be undermined and respective economies will suffer.

  Erm, why?
Your feet develop differently if you wear/dont waer shoes.

His feet hurt after an hour of not wearing shoes because his toes arent used to the extra work they are required to do.
It not like we couldnt walk more than an hour a day till we figured out how to make leather and shoes
