Museum in Maryland Had Live Rocket for Two Years on Display

Authorities in Allegany County say a veterans' museum in Cumberland got word that a Mark 1 rocket in one of their exhibits could still detonate. FBI and state fire marshal's office officials later confirmed this.

The rocket, which is about 2.75" x 48", is similar to Vietnam-era helicopter gun ship rockets, according to Deputy State Fire Marshal Joseph Zurolo Jr. The rocket was acquired by the museum after it was donated by a veteran.

The Vietnam Veterans of America include the museum in one of their chapters, added Zurolo. The ordnance was removed and rendered safe by bomb experts. Authorities are now trying to figure out where the man got the rocket.
