Rev. Al Sharpton Sharply Criticizes Bill Clinton

Rev. Al Sharpton on the ABC show "The View" today told former President Bill Clinton to "shut up". While not identifying any individual statements, Sharpton said Mr. Clinton should end the "race-tinged rhetoric".

Many Democrats are reported to be upset with Mr. Clinton's comparison of Barack Obama's South Carolina victory to those of Rev. Jesse Jackson in 1984 and 1988, in an effort to explain his wife's Saturday South Carolina loss.

The New York Times reports that Jesse Jackson spoke with Obama and Clinton over the weekend and advised them to take a "higher ground."

  You know what

I'd love to meet Mr. Sharpton in person so I can tell him to shove it up his ass.

I'm so *SICK* of this guy yelling racism every time a white guy sneezes in the vacinity of a black guy.

Come on!

  and I'm sick...

...of people taking absolutely everything Al Sharpton says as illegitimate claims to racism. It's to the point that people can't point out inequality without someone claiming reverse racism.

  If I were Bill Clinton

I would simply respond that Al Sharpton is only saying those things because I am white. A lot of people do not realize that the "race card" can be thrown by any race. The root of the matter is that race should not even be an issue here. Big deal. Obama is black. Hillary is a woman. Edwards is a white guy. I have a zit on my butt. Big Freakin' Deal. The issue in this campaign should be the issues. PERIOD. In the words of Metallica, Nothing Else Matters.

I'm tired of Sharpton and Jackson. Whenever there is something remotely racist they both fly in and use it to promote themselves.

AMEN! The fact that someone is black, female, or a Mormon or a Catholic will not realistically effect the way they will lead the United States. All this crap, I think, comes from media pundits who think that we voters would rather watch mud wrestling than learn about what our potential leaders would do about the issues facing Americans.

As for Al Sharpton, he needs to realize that every time he does something like this, he further erodes his already negligible credibility. He's done some good things -- for example, I think he brought some much-needed texture and context to the Jena Six issue. But Clinton has a legitimate point here, in that Jackson's presidencial campaign was, in large part, the disastrous outcome of a few open primaries that witnessed Republicans voting for the Democrat they deemed "least likely to succeed."

I think Clinton's wrong -- I think Obama has broader appeal than Jackson could ever have hoped to garner, and is a quite electable candidate -- but Clinton does have a point that shouldn't simply be shouted down.

  Wow

I bet Obama is cursing Sharpton this morning.
He was doing rather well at avoiding turning this into a race election, Sharptons come out swinging against that

Sure, it doesn't matter what religion they are, just make sure they don't talk to and take direct orders from god, especially orders to invade a middle eastern country.

  Conniving Clintons

It wasn't about race until Hill-Billy started excusing Hill's declining appeal to race. People are people, and we try tip toeing around it as much as possible UNTIL we get personally offended for whatever reason. Like when Joe Biden commented on Obama being 'Articulate', no one SHOULD've been offended and most realized this, but some felt the need to raise the race card. Could he have said something different? probably, but why should we tip toe to such extremes? BECAUSE of American History. we shouldn't have to, but we do, and it's because that history is still there and we keep it alive while we hypocratically wonder what color-blind life would be like. </rant>

  ..well..

sometimes it's hard to bury something that's still flailing in it's grave.
It's hard to be colorblind when what you're tuning out is a lack of privilege and not the other way around.
