Canada: Daniel Hammond is suing the police department after an officer accidentally shot him in the abdomen during an arrest in late 2005. Constable Mike Miller, the officer who shot him, resigned in January.
Hammond had reportedly been causing a disturbance outside a restaurant and resisted when police attempted to arrest him. Miller reached for his Taser to subdue Hammond but came up with his Glock instead and shot the 25-year-old.
At that time the police were using a Taser that is very similar in feel to the police firearm. Since that time the force has switched to a Taser with a different feel. The government in British Columbia is currently holding an inquiry into Tasers.
