Democracy Inaction

Authorities in Tamarac, Florida held a referendum to annex an unincorporated community in Broward County. Notices were sent to the 68 registered voters in the Prospect Bend neighborhood, but none showed up to cast a ballot.

It cost $2500 to keep the polling station open for 12 hours. Had just one voter showed up - the referendum would have been decided.

  Actually..

"Inaction" may or may not be the right word to describe this. If no one showed up to vote because they either boycotted the vote, or due to some other purposeful inaction, then it was in fact, democracy in action.

This story, unfortunately, follows the current trend of not providing enough information*. It seems possible to me that no one turned up to vote because no one had enough time to make a decision.

*Note: I'm referring to mainstream news, not the summary.

possibly but the far greater likly hood is voter aparthy and laziness.

not voting is not a protest it is just acceptance of someone elses decision.
