Diabetics Sweet on Bitter Melon

Australian and Chinese scientists are researching the health benefits of Bitter Melon. They believe they have found a new drug to combat type 2 Diabetes.

The melon was broken down into its simplest components and these were applied to muscle cells. These cells then absorbed glucose. Mice that have been given the compounds have shown no side effects and human trials will start in about a year.

Professor David James of the Garvan Intistute remarked "Much of our modern medicines actually come from this very way, so aspirin and Metformin - which is one of the most commonly-used medications for diabetes - came from plants."
