Herb Peterson wasn't a household name by any means, but chances are you have eaten the sandwich he created that became synonymous with McDonald's and breakfast: the Egg McMuffin. Mr. Peterson died yesterday at age 89.
Herb began with McDonalds as VP of the company's advertising firm D'Arcy Advertising, who also wrote McDonald's first national ad slogan "Where Quality Starts Fresh Every Day".
In 1972, Peterson came up with the Egg McMuffin, trying to recreate for McDonald's eggs benedict, which Peterson loved. He created a sandwich with egg, cheese, and grilled Canadian bacon served on a toasted and buttered English Muffin.
