Time Magazine Reviews Britain's Youth

The latest issue of Time Magazine's International Edition bears a uniquely British front cover. It shows a boy wearing a 'hoodie' in the centre of a Union jack. Also included are Police mug shots of convicted teen murderers.

This issue features an article on UK youth culture. The headline description of the subject matter begins with "Unhappy, Unloved and Out of Control..".

Issues addressed by the article include: more than 20% of British people avoiding going out at night because of the risk of youth gangs, availability of cheap alcohol, child poverty, criminality, binge drinking and violence.

  Ok

So, even I would debate that this is news, but the Daily Mail ran it as a news story, and it may well trigger a political response from the UK. After all, our government couldn't give a damn how many people are hurt, however, when an international magazine describes, in detail, what actually goes on over here, it's my guess they'll act. Even if only to blame someone else, likely the magazine or author.

For info, the mug shots to the left of the kid on the cover are of teenagers who recently stamped on a man's head until he was dead. The man was Gary Newlove and the story was SN reported.

It's a serious problem over here, and, a warning to other countries. Kids are told all about their rights but nothing of consequence or responsibility. Many grow up in families on the benefits, they exist to do nothing more than go on them later in life. They spend their time drunk. They have frequent unprotected sex (kids are a great way to get a council house quickly). They assault and kill people regularly, around once a week someone dies, many more are injured. They are above the law. They are protected by their rights up until the point where they actually kill their victims, they are free to continue until they achieve this. The Police are all by roads with speed guns, they wont help victims. The politicians have invested in high walls and bullet-proof cars, they are un-affected and don't care. This is reality.

I would recommend a read of the article, I'll certainly be having a look on the net for it.

  every time

I read about some gang of British "yobs" stomping someone to death, everyone expresses shock and horror, and then the judge sentences them all to like two years in prison.

That's Britain's main problem. The judges, like the politicians have big walls and safe cars. Judges aren't the victims and are equally as little in touch with reality as the politicians. They take an overly liberal view that letting these people out on community orders will rehabilitate them.

I read a story today about young thugs out on a community order for violence. They 'stomped' a 21 year old woman to death. Hence my comment above that they are free to continue hurting people up to the point that their victim dies. Anything before that carries little or no punishment.

  Serious question.

Do any of you folk want to run for government ?. I’m not joking. I looked it up, and it really isn’t that hard. If you live in an area with a some Chav scum and a lot of old people you could well end up with a nicely paying job.

All you do is tell people that you’re only standing to do some thing about the crime. That’s it. No environmental policy, no opinion on the Euro, not even a word about Olympics.

The elderly and afraid vote, scum doesn’t. The simple truth is that unless the politicians think their cushy little jobs are in danger they aren’t going to do squat.

not to be a total dooche

or anything like that. But this is why you guys should NOT have taken firearms away!!!!!! If everyone had a Concealed Carry in the UK, then this shit wouldn't happen. Seriously, it WOULD NOT HAPPEN. Look at that hick town in Georgia where the sheriff made everyone carry a weapon. Crime went from through the roof with gang related activity, to 0. That's right, zero, there wasn't any crime after they made everyone carry a firearm.

  I agree with meshuggahfan.

When the "victims" could be a trigger happy gun carrier, the bad guys run in the other direction. When there is a herd of them, the bad guys leave town.

  Sure...

I mean we all know the world needs more scared people with guns. What could go wrong?

  by: StarShadow     03/29/2008 01:07 AM
  yeah, guns solve everything!

why address the underlying problem when you can just kill the person with the problem? look at how swimmingly things are going in iraq.

  Yes, guns do rock

They also cure cancer, and are the solution to the universal healthcare debate.

  there are

some cases of people who defend their homes with guns...but how many more cases never arise because people don't know whether you have guns or not? In America, there is no way a criminal can know how much of a risk he runs so I'm sure that alone probably cuts down on some crime. At any rate, I would rather have some protection because you can't always rely on the police to help you.

  Suggestions for british people

***********Warning I may look like a psychopath**********

When i was young my parents had the habit of hitting me when i did something bad(Throwing rocks at passing car)

"Kids are told all about their rights but nothing of consequence or responsibility."

The adults in the country are there to provide the young with answers on how their right stop where the rights of other begins. If i see a young dumnbass trying to be cool and shit while preventing me from going to park my car personally I pedal to the metal and yell at him through the window,if he want to come and confront me I'm very glad cause i got a pr-24 collapsable baton and a 6 inches buck knife with me at all times.

Britain got to get their shit together unless they want to become a third world country.
