UK Police Report Says Immigration Crime Wave is a Myth

British daily The Guardian claims that a new police association study has concluded that immigrants from Eastern Europe entering the UK have not caused a rise in crime.

The report’s conclusions fly in the face of popular beliefs which often make British headlines linking new migrants to crime. The figures show that new immigrants from Eastern Europe commit crimes on par with their native counterparts.

A senior source with inside knowledge of the report told the Guardian “People are saying crime is rising because of this influx. Given 1 million people have come in, that doesn't make sense as crime is significantly down."

too bad it won't change attitudes

the racists and xenophobes don't care about facts. crime isn't the reason they hate eastern europeans, muslims, or the chinese, it's just an easy excuse to justify their bigotry. they'll find something else.

  It aint the crime

it's the translation cost that's pressurising police. Each translator required for a criminal who doesn't speak English takes away a police officer. Simple as that.

It's not just a crime myth that's fuelling racism, it's the fact that some people are coming into the country with no hope of getting a job and instantly receiving benefits of all types from the taxes of people who have paying into the system their entire working lives and can't afford a mortgage on even the smallest 1 bedroom flat. There's nothing wrong with people settling in a country, getting a job and contributing to society but it understandably pisses people off that someone decides to bring his entire family from his own country for a better life on British benefits.

Not being funny but.... [warning! rant!]

For a native to the UK to commit a crime in their own country is one thing. For an immigrant to commit a crime in the UK is another!

Where as there may only be a similar proportion of immigrants causing trouble as their native counterparts. No matter which way you cut it; WE DON'T NEED THESE PEOPLE

England can't be seen as a soft touch. We should deport any immigrant criminals (regardless of their crime) the second they finish their sentence.

This isn't being done. I'm almost certain shortnews reported how the prison service has literally released thousands of immigrant criminals back into society. Unfortunately I can't actually find the article

For the most part Britain is seen as a soft touch. The benefits system is often abused and once you're here, you're here to stay. England doesn't have refugees. We're not directly adjacent to any country currently producing refugees. We get Economic migrants. They're costing a fortune for the government to clothe and award benefits (including rent free housing) etc. You'd be surprised how hard it is to get a council house if you're a fine upstanding member of society. Instead you need to be a pregnant teenage single mother or unable to speak English, hell even ex-cons leave prison and are gifted accommodation. All the while, UK born British citizens are leaving these fair isles in their thousands. There's something fundamentally wrong.

And to cap it all off, England is in the grasp of a "Credit Crunch" as a precursor to recession.

WE CAN'T AFFORD THESE PEOPLE.

Bottom line; if you're an immigrant to the UK and get caught committing a crime. You should be deported from here and sent back where you came. And don't give me any of that "Human Rights" crap. People need to be made responsible for their actions....

Britain has enough problems without having to worry about the dregs from other countries.

As always, please feel free to call me a liar.

Where is the spacecraft? Hope on and fly way back in time, just far enough, until the last country that was occupied by British, perhaps for 3-4 centuries, look at yourself in the mirror and say "Tsk Tsk, I cant believe I am a product of that tyranny" Well, pay back time..

  Stop criminals...

from travel full stop. If it is the English or whoever, they shouldn't be allowed to leave their native country if they have a serious criminal record. Why should they have the right to start a new life else where, with the possibility of them beginning their criminal careers again. Often, their victims can't start a fresh or even pick up the pieces of their own shattered lives.

no offense...

but thats slavery and captivity of humans... thats is in no way right ... after all WTF is jail for than,, after you serve your sentence life should more or less be business as usual but instead many people would rather have this loose form of slavery and captivity instead... funny considering you personally advocate a free tibet which is fine and good, but they were violent, ie, they were criminals, yet we still heard the rap for that.. and that was my defense of china, the protests were violent and should have been stopped (the people protesting violently) FOR being violent, not because of what they were protesting about.

not everyone that has a criminal record is really a criminal, hell take drug laws as an example its one of the greatest and most successfull assualts against freedom and liberty that have ever been launched. engaging in freedom should never be a crime, unless of course it directly or reasonably directly will harm someone else.

above and beyond that not eveyone that has commited an actual crime (actual crime meaning there was an actual victim) will commit another, most crimes are simply crimes of passion or desperation, crimes of desperation are typically strongly linked to poverty...

and in all honestly crimes of desperation are often as much society/the governments fault as the person that commits the crimes... why... well thats simple... there is no law that trumps survival, the law can say otherwise, but that directly defies all human nature... humans can, will and HAVE resorted to even cannibalism for survival, we have resorted to incest for survival, we have always relied on theft for survival, all animals that can to this, do it.. its just competing for resources when you get right down too it.

oh come on out with it... atleast americans are bold enough to do it... but then this is typical american attitude, sadly the UK like canada seems to be becomming more and more like the US; NOT A GOOD THING...lol

the attitude is an acronym... NIMBY:

Not
In
My
Back
Yard

i suppose as long as the plights of the other 6.54 billion people in the world dont matter as long is it NIMBY... and they shouldn't have the same opportunity to better their lives as your ancestors did...

hell lets take america for instance... lets deport all the criminall immigrant in the US... whoops thats almost the total jail population, how many natives are in jail...lol

fot that matter hot do you think the UK was formed if not through immigration... last i checked humans evolved in africa to what we are... and the last time i check the UK was a wee bit north of africa... SOMEONES BEEN IMMIGRATING... since the US has about 60 million people thats alot of immigrating... over ALOT of time... if they as humans don't have the opportunity to live the same kind of life as you... you sure as **** dont either.

you know these people thate immigrant they don't ask to be born poor, they don't ask to be born at all... no one does,... for that matter i didn't ask to be born in caanda, there are a dozen countries i'd rather live in, should i be restricted from bettering my life, personally i don't have a criminal record but if you've served your time you should be a free man... if not you SHOULD NEVER serve a prison sentence EVER... infact i would advocate this stance even violently as its a no-win situation... if you commit a crime (which many countries make up as they go along) you are not even human anymore, but rather a pet, a animal kept in a large cage... like the palestinians to a lesser extent.

...and most people dont give a shit as long as its not in their back yard.

what would you do should the world suddenly become one community where everyone helps each other socially; you know like a tribe or what-not. the NIMBY crowd will be screwed come that day, though i wont hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

oh btw, the world can't afford its population... so were sending the UK and the US to space... just the vacuum of space, not an particular plant.. hey as long as your not in my backyard i shouldn't care right... reminds me of the worlds stance on darfur.... here we had a region that desperately needs help, yet a coalition of countries have collectively decided their time and money would better be spent oppressing two nations than helping one.

Oh this is gonna open the flood gates:

@shmacko
The term "Call me a liar" tends to work best when those calling you a liar explain why so I can construct a response to your counter argument :)

@isuzu
The UK may have owned a substantial portion of the planet at one point, but that was another time. To keep throwing the sins of our past at the people who had NOTHING to do with the decisions made in the day is completely counter productive. Or are you going to share with us how your statement helps this discussion?

@ HAVOC
I've read a lot of your posts in the past and have often agreed with the points. However, your desire to see borders torn down etc is never going to happen:

"[how] do you think the UK was formed if not through immigration... last i checked humans evolved in africa to what we are... and the last time i check the UK was a wee bit north of africa... SOMEONES BEEN IMMIGRATING..."

A very good point, however it failed a few thousand years ago. Around about the time small tribes started declaring boundaries to their territories and then binding together and forming countries. It wasn't considered immigration until then:
http://dictionary.reference.com/...

NIMBY, a very interesting statement. At no point did I ever say that. I'm all for hard working immigration done in the sense of exchanging knowledge and skill sets. All I'm saying is I don't want the dregs of another society coming to my country (home) and committing various illegal acts. In much the same way, you wouldn't invite anyone into your own home who you suspect (from their previous actions (criminal records etc)) would be inclined to steal your telly! That would be retarded. This is exactly the same principle. I don't want criminal immigrants coming to my home country with no intention of respecting my laws. Is that so difficult to accept? We already have our own criminals we're having problems dealing with and our prisons are full. As for those who come with a clean record and then commit a "serious" crime, deportation should be the norm. Make them responsible for their own actions, don't reward them by letting them stay in the country who's laws they don't respect and send them back to where they came from so they can continue to commit crimes on their own native soil
