The UK Wiped Off The Map

As the flag of St.George flies over Downing Street a rather more sinister picture has been painted by Brussels. EU officials have produced a map where the country and the channel are no longer shown. Instead chunks form "transnational regions".

The plan, known as INTER-REG places bits of the UK into regions alongside other EU countries. Each region will be governed by a "managing authority" none of whom are elected or based in the UK.

Each region will be awarded taxpayers money which will go to the managing authorities. The EU flag will be flown at least 1 week every year.

The map does not contain the words "England" or "Britain" and renames the English Channel.

Is for both Brits and Americans.

Brits; I think we're screwed, this looks pretty damned conclusive. I guess we should enjoy Britain while we can. Well, the bits of it that aren't crap.

Americans; the NAU is likely to go the same way. This isn't a conspiracy, this exists, they're not afraid of taking the sovereignty of a nation.

Revolt my fellow brothers, be you English, Scottish or dare I say it, Welsh!

I cant wait until I get into the marines, if they tried to screw over the Royal Marines, imagine 2000 highly trained and very peeved off soldiers fully armed taking back our one Great Britain. The Army can come too... and I suppose the RAF too :p

Seriously though, if that happens, I smell revolt

I'm afraid the army is very much under the control of the politicians. If they weren't, the politicians may well not get away with treating the injured quite so badly. I'm sorry mate, but they're already crapping on your lot from a great hight.

Unstable, thanks to the conservative and their new corruption scandal.

Otherwise, if the NAU comes in, I smell a new north american country in the making.

Maybe not, but they at least recognize Britain/The UK as being a country in it's own right, with it's own government.

We don't all use the same names for countries, the French call England "Angleterre" and the Germans call their country "Deutschland", but for some reason we call it "Germany", but we all agree on the fact that these are countries in their own right, rather than just part of some huge superstate!

"Now the Labour Government has been caught red-handed conspiring with European bureaucrats to create a European superstate via the back door.

"Gordon Brown literally wants to wipe England off the map."

And where will Brown be at the end of his lead with Blair in a neat little pink suite somewhere. England deserves this we as the people are weak we voted this Government in, and do nothing when the steal from us.

  Sorry RV

It was mainly meant for havoc who can not make one post without saying what a terrible place the US is. Day after day of the same thing tends to get tiring and I put my claws out for a second.

to RV and Star and the other decent Canadians I apologise for the generalization.

P.S. I would really like the garbage to stay there though ;-)

"..oh and take your trash back Michigan is tired of being your landfill."

didn't know... but you can probably thank the idiotas that thought it was a good idea to shut down the solid waste reduction unit we had here without already haveing built a new one.

hey michigan, quit polluting our Ontarian air...lol

Well I don't want to get into any of that because I don't really care one way or the other, I just want to point out that it would be a bit silly for the EU to officially adopt a name like English Channel when France is right there and the literal translation of their name for it is "the Sleeve".

Michigan is being paid to take our trash, its a business contract, if they don't want the money, they can stop taking it.

Pfffffft. Please.

I love Canada. There are worse places than it. I know, that's why we moved here.

You keep whining and crying about how Canada's going down the hole but I'm not seeing that at all. Get off your soap box already.

What is this article even about... I'm confused...

It's about the EU making a map of trade zones and some English people getting fussy about EU trade zone borders not corresponding to national borders. As the French might say, "Whoup De Dieux."

oh, i love canada too... but only by comparision... not objectively.

how long you been here?... i was born here... things have NEVER gotten better since i've been born, only worse, but then i was born into the era of free trade... my father's got an extra 30 years over my head, he remember canada pre-freetrade, oh you should hear how our economy went down the crapper.. free trade... great for the US, horrible for canada. or WAS great for the US, now you see the US getting heavily dependant on china, much the was canada is heavily dependant on the US.

free trade good idea, but NOT when it forces one economy (canada) to be dependant on other countries economy (the US)... the US practices protectionism against canada (take soft wood lumber for instance) to protect ther economy, canada should be doing the same... there were people worrying that this would effect canada's soveignty even back then when free trade was being introduced...

free trade is and was in short the segway to the north america trade union. in 1993 it officially covered mexico, so i can only imagine that the mexican economy has been exploited as well. the soveignty of canada as been more than theaten for quite some time... we're bordeing on endangered with the NAU/SPP.

glad to here you love it here though, where were you from?

There is no one left down there. They all migrated north.

  Regarding Jammy's point

Its an oft repeated but entirely false statement that the current inhabitants of England are descended from the Anglo-Saxons.

They arent.

After the last ice age, Europe, well, France, Germany, The British Isles and Scandavia, was repopulated by a culture we call the beakers, who spread along the coasts from Spain and then moved inland, so, all the peoples of "western" Europe are descended from the same roots anyway.

Compared with the Italians, Greeks and ancient balkans area who date from a different migration.

So, skip forward about 2000 years to when the Hans from China begin driving the Germans west back into the Roman Empire.

A variety of "Germanic" Tribes moved back.
The Goths and Visigoths settled in Italy, the Vandals ended up ruling Spain, The Angles and the Saxons ended up on the British Isles.
These migrations had massive effects on the culture of the areas they moved to, because they killed the ruling classes and put themselves in charge, but little genetic derivation was caused, simply because the actual migrations were pretty small when compared with the existing populations.
But the English are no more saxons than the Spaniards are Vandals.

The UK is also occaisionaly accused of being French, because of the Norman conquest of 1066. However, considering the Normans were simple an offshoot of the Danes, Norman, North Man, again the arguement holds no water.
The population of the UK in 1066 was about 2,000,000, the entire Norman occupation force including families was 20,000.
The "celtic" arguement is also pretty funny as well.
The "Celtic Revival" started in 1850's London, nobody bothered to inform the Welsh and Irish about it till quite a bit later.
Before then, no group of people had ever refered to themselves as celts.

I never understood the fascination with a Greek pig farmer personaly, a much better patron saint for England would be Edmund the Martyr

"The map does not contain the words "England" or "Britain" and renames the English Channel." True, instead it calls it the United Kingdom

The map is a little too small for me to read properly but I can't see where it says 'United Kingdom', which bit?

I think you were missing Tiggy's point; that the UK consists of more than just England or Great Britain.
