Leonardo Da Vinci's Parachute Tested

Switzerland: A parachute design set down by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1485 has been constructed out of modern materials and successfully tested by parachutist Olivier Vietti-Teppa.

The 500-year-old design, which consists of four equilateral triangles sewn into a pyramid with a square net across the bottom, works but cannot be steered at all.

After testing the design with a model, Vietti-Teppa made a 650m jump using da Vinci's design. "I came down in the middle of Payerne military airport in Switzerland. A perfect jump," he said.
