UK Woman Arrested For Defending War Memorial

Julie Lake, 50, the daughter of a World War 2 veteran has been convicted of assault after protecting a war memorial which was subject to months of vandalism. The police did nothing to prevent the vandalism but did arrest Mrs Lake when she tried.

Mrs Lake confronted the children responsible for the destruction, hitting one round the ear and throwing a BMX bike into the road after one was ridden through flower beds at the memorial. She was charged with assault and criminal damage.

A gang of 25 jeering kids had surrounded Mrs Lake and shouted "You can't touch us, we're 15, we can do what the f*** we like.". When questioned in court about the memorial, one child said "It means nothing to me..".

why Britain is turning to sh!t really isn't it? Arrest the victim, harass the public, leave the criminals to do their worst.

To bring a little context to the article; 72 million people died in World War 2. 20 million people died in World War 1.

To quote the kid: "It means nothing to me, I guess it's for some people who died in the war."

The sad truth is that this shameful judgement against this woman only serves to confirm the attitude that the kids have. They're right, they can do anything they please, they answer to no-one. If you dare defend yourself, you will be prosecuted.

Little wonder this country is morally and ethically bankrupt.

I salute your ability to constantly find news that makes me want to leave the UK. It’s looking like 12 – 18 months if I’m lucky.

Yeh, sorry, I just read these things and feel like I should share my disgust with internet-land.

I'll find something good at some point, that'll be my mission for the day :-)

I would never hit my daughter

But, then she's never given me anything close to a reason to. I'm extremely lucky and have a wonderfully well behaved child and I would never condone beating a child.

That being said...

  Stupid liberals....

How stupid is it to have laws that allow a section of the community to think the are free to do as they please. This not just a problem in the UK but Australia has similar laws and it does nothing but bread A..holes.
Lots of folk make fun of the USA but if they did that where I live now those kids would be in fear of their lives and doing the sort of time in jail they deserve.

time for a new Australia (ok... maybe not quite as terrible :D ). Seriously, ship the kids to Africa and get them working or something.

I’ve spent the last hour trying to find a news story that offered me hope for this hole of a country. Couldn’t find anything about Chav hunting becoming legal, or politicians been forced to use the services they manage.

So instead here’s a link that proves there are worse places to live.
http://en.wikipedia.org/ I think it should be the goal of every decent Brit to leave before the country hits the top 30.

What victim? I see an adult and children deciding not to follow the rules.

If she had really wanted to protect the memorial she would have thought up plans to protect it rather then act like a crazy woman. An example of an easy fix for the flower beds is to add a small fence around it, but why bother fixing problems when you can add to them.

  Assault > Vandalism

You cant assault kids for whatever reason.
Especially if that reason is because you've never bothered to teach them about your history.

Pretty sure that naughyforty is reaching harassment as there have been posts in other submissions regarding this "PM."

Ban please?

Fair point, but as the system has made clear that there will be no official punishment for these kids, do we just leave them to desecrate the memory of the people who died defending this country? And if we do, what kind of broken society will we be creating if we foster these feelings of disrespect?
