Plea Bargain: Guilty Plea for Some KFC

33-year old Tremayne Durham agreed to plead guilty to murder charges in exchange for a fried chicken feast. After his plea he was rewarded with KFC and Popeye's fried chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, carrot cake and Haagen-Dazs ice cream.

Judge Michael McShane has said "What Eric (the sitting judge) has to weigh is an odd request versus the raw economics of the taxpayer money that's going to be spent." After sentencing Durham will dine on calzones, pizza, lasagna and ice cream.

Durham has agreed to a life sentence with possibility of parole in 30 years and waived his right to appeal. Without the plea agreement his trial would last five weeks and cost the state over $1 million, including his appeals.

  This Is Sick

The Judge allowed a man to sell himself to save the county money. The judge should not be representing the county ( the prosecutors job) or the defendant. If his concern is the expense to the county then he is bias and should not be at the bench.

Both sides of the case knew and acknowledge that Durham was guilty. Durham himself made the offer.

is interesting and counts for me as new, finally tis is totally all the same the jurors would have declared him as guilty if there are enough evidences.

Yes, but what if he is actually innocent and just *really* likes fried chicken enough to lie about committing a murder for some tasty breasts and legs?

  What is wrong with this?

Naive? Plea bargains happen all the time. Sometimes it's for lesser time in prison or something else. Plea bargains aren't about an innocent person just doing it for fun, it's about a heap of evidence against them and they are trying to get a little something when they have nothing left to gain.
