33-year old Tremayne Durham agreed to plead guilty to murder charges in exchange for a fried chicken feast. After his plea he was rewarded with KFC and Popeye's fried chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, carrot cake and Haagen-Dazs ice cream.
Judge Michael McShane has said "What Eric (the sitting judge) has to weigh is an odd request versus the raw economics of the taxpayer money that's going to be spent." After sentencing Durham will dine on calzones, pizza, lasagna and ice cream.
Durham has agreed to a life sentence with possibility of parole in 30 years and waived his right to appeal. Without the plea agreement his trial would last five weeks and cost the state over $1 million, including his appeals.
