Exercise Slows Memory Loss in Early Alzheimer's

Researchers at the University of Kansas Medical Center released the results of a study at the 2008 International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease (ICAD) on Sunday that showed exercise slowed deterioration of the hippocampus in early Alzheimer's.

Researcher Robyn A. Honea said, "This is the first study to get an inside look into specifically where these changes occur in the brain — we're able to locate the changes associated with fitness to the actual memory region, the hippocampus."

Other studies presented at ICAD showed exercise also decreases falls, which are up to three times more common in people with dementia than in those who do not suffer dementia, due to increased balance.

I've not worked out since I broke my shoulder. This gives me an incentive to explain my disability (temporary, I hope) to a personal trainer and ask for a modified exercise routine. If I take copious notes and hire him/her for one day it shouldn't be too costly, I wouldn't think. Besides, I'm gaining weight because of it.

Now where did I leave my cookie and my coffee cup...

a few things lately, on the alzheimer's, we may be able to prevent this disease in most cases soon.

I sure hope so. My dad had to experience his mom...deteriorate. I feel for anyone who's going through (or gone through) that. I don't wanna do it and I don't want anyone to have to go through it with what used to be me.

I would have to agree, exercise cures alot of things and stops you getting the nasty things in the first place
