Man Decapitated on Bus

A 40-year-old is being held by Canadian authorities after allegedly decapitating a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus en route through Manitoba. The victim is said to be a young man either in his late teens or early 20s. 37 people were on the bus.

A witness says the young man was sleeping with headphones on when the attacker "stabbed him 50 times or 60 times." Another witness added: "Like, just everywhere, arms, legs, neck, chest, guts, wherever he could swing it, he got it."

Passengers fled the bus and when some returned, the decapitation took place. The assailant tried to steal the bus but the driver was able to disable the vehicle. Children as young as 6 witnessed this episode start and counselors are on hand.

  Hurrah.

One of the few incidents where capital punishment is invariably suitable. Never going to be able to rehabilitate this one to a state where they could be released, ever. They murdered someone in a ridiculously horrendous way.

Damnit jfury you beat me to it...

I was in the process of submitting this when I saw that JFury had beat me to it. Oh well, maybe next time.

This is horrific. I'm very curious why he did this. The man was sleeping, so it appears to be a random act. He's obviously very sick. If you watch the video at CNN one of the witnesses says he walked to the door of the bus with the head in his hand and just dropped it. This guy DEFINITELY needs to die. I feel a little nauseous the more I picture what happened.

The Death Penalty Lives in Canada

At least for sleeping innocent passengers on a bus.

its well known that prisoners have their own sentencing while in jail.

Why do you think Bernado made the decision of solitary confinement

Serious Deathrow for this grizzly "Pig"

Hearing this news was a devastating shock. After the incident caused by this deranged, 'selfish creature', I am asking a few volunteers in each Canadian community to sign a serious, once-and-for all petition to reinstate death row in Canada. Who can take the initiative? Please reply to the comment and I will be notified. I am very serious about making sure capital punishment exists.

Forget that. I'm glad it's not going to happen.

We will never have the death penalty in Canada. Trying to use this as a reason to get the death penalty would not work. If you want someone to be the "poster child" to get the death penalty then you need to use someone who's rapped and killed people, broken into there homes and just warped the safe world people live in. This current criminal is obviously not sane and looks like a random act of violence. You need someone who makes people scared to go to sleep at night without double checking the locks. Even if you find someone like that in Canada trying to get the death penalty would still result in a huge fail.
Until there is conclusive evidence that the death penalty does anything worth while I will never be for it. As I'm sure most Canadians will agree.

  What..

Really pisses me off, is that no one tried to help the kid *and* they sealed him in with his killer.

"Colwell said the "brave" behaviour of the passengers and driver probably prevented anyone else from being hurt."

Brave??!! You f**king ran and locked him in and you think that's brave?

You mean someone like Bernardo?

by: jaded fox     08/01/2008 09:52 AM
  @Starshadow

What did you expect them to do, they could have been seriously injured if they tried to stop that lunatic, I'm all for helping the kid but at the same time they have a right to look out for their own safety. Trying to stop the killer could have resulted in more injuries or deaths.

  Spoken..

OMG I might get hurt? Sorry, nope, no-way, have fun in the afterlife kid.

Spoken like a true self-centered coward.

 by: StarShadow     08/01/2008 12:16 PM
  coward? lol

so essentially what you're saying is that all of the passengers on that bus were cowards for not putting their lives in danger to save a complete stranger.

I expected better from you, for someone who speaks as though he's intelligent. Explain to us Starshadow how not endangering their lives in considered cowardice. You are being silly and inconsiderate, your emotions might be getting the best of you.

this topic reminds me of this one right here http://www.shortnews.com/
there's no need for me to repeat what has been said already in that topic.

don't know it was there any reason why the man has killed that young man, if there is no reason I think of a mind illness.

  Most people aren't prepared

for things like this. Having once been exceptionally poor I have lived in some very, very bad areas so I never go out wandering without pepper spray and a stun gun. I also routinely carry a switchblade. I've never used the knife on anything more dangerous than an apple, but the pepper spray and the stun gun have been used in the interest of self-preservation. (The stun gun is the only reason all I have is a badly broken shoulder right now. Probably saved my lil life.) How many people actually carry those things and are prepared to use them, though?

I honestly don't know how I would have reacted to something like this. I've intervened in a fight downtown with a large pack of "outside" homeless kids beating on one of our local homeless kids. But there were no knives involved there. Just smiley chains and boots. And I called the cops before I started zapping/spraying the little darlings. I also consider that kind of thing one of the hazards of the type of volunteer work I do and have mentally prepared myself for it. I also recognize it is a very dangerous thing to do and could have easily resulted in my own severe injury or death. Gremlin, a local homeless man I often assisted, died going to the aid of another homeless man who was attacked by a local who liked roaming about terrorizing our most vulnerable citizens. He was stabbed to death.

I'm no coward, but I'm also not stupid. Even if I did not have the vulnerability of a fragmented avulsion fracture right now, I don't think puffing myself up to twice my real size while yelling "Hey! Leave him alone!" and going for a tackle would have been on my list of options. Besides, the police didn't even want to go get him. The police in Canada must be very, very different than the ones I'm used to out here. Ours can hardly wait to beat you. Or maybe this guy was just so obviously nuts they realized trying to take him on the bus would not be the best idea.

While I wouldn't call the people who ran "brave", I wouldn't call them cowardly. Fight or flight kicked in and they all chose "flight". Quite wisely, it would seem.

  Life

So Canada values life so much there isn't a death penalty... so why the argument over helping the poor man? If people valued life so much the whole bus would have torn this man apart.

when you've been stabbed, and your life is in danger, wouldn't you want someone to try to do something?

I'm sure this guy had a pretty poor view of humanity when he was getting stabbed the 10th time and was watching people get off the bus. Thats right... he more then likely lived to see the people abandon him.

 by: Trevelyan   08/01/2008 05:28 PM
  I would have stopped him

I don't think they were "cowards" for not helping, but I would have stopped him. People are sometimes unable to help, but I'm a big guy, and if someone's busy stabbing someone 50-60 times, that would give me plenty of time to do something. Though there's nothing wrong with self-preservation.

I live an hour from where this occured.

There was another murder in which the victim was decapitated in Winnipeg in 2002. My friend, author and social activist Dan Zupansky is writing a book about the slaying. There's a youtube video here http://www.trophykill.tv which has the gory details.

Winnipeg is the murder capital of Canada, in case you didn't know. Now you do.

Regarding helping the kid out, I talked to my mom about this and she said think about it, you're asleep on a bus, and suddenly u hear someone scream and people yelling "GET OFF THE BUS!". You're not going to think, you're going to run and save your family and yourself. It's really sad though that no one was able to help, however you really can't blame the people who fled the scene, it was their survival instinct at play... but if only there had been a hero maybe the kids life could have been saved. His name is Tim McLean Jr. Let his soul find peace.

Here's a photo of him:

It may be you would have been the only person on that bus who is a big guy, I'm sure this would have been a big help but I don't know if the killer had an any kind of weapon, if you would have had any I think you would have used it.

  bus murder

I would like to state that first of this this young man was not asleep when this happened secondly the killer was not on the bus for hours beside this kid listening to his crappy music so hey he killed him for that. It is a psycho who got on in brandon which is 75 miles from where the murder roughly and when this jerk was on the bus he sat in the front then moved to the back where this victim was sitting. He also as reported was not 6 feet tall or 200 plus pounds he is asian and was maybe 5'7. I do not care what this mans reasons are he is dispicable. He of course with our pathetic canadian justice system will get of on insanity and if not since they only charged him with second degree murder will be out in no time with good behavior. The judge even has said he is looking out for protecting this jerks rights that is how it goes here. I hope unlike bernardo someone gets him in jail and ends this why should we pay to house him or anyone who does these horrific acts. What ever happened to years ago when they just went out and hung them. I am kidding I am just sickened by what this A Hole did.

  bus

I also question why no one helped this ypoung guy. I don't look at them as heroes either but cowards there was some young guys on there who chose to not act. It would of been one thing had it been a gun but it was a knife and a couple of guys could of grabbed this jerk. I shudder to think what went through his mind also seeing them get of the bus. Or the guy that was interviewed and looking for his 5 minutes of fame saying he had to worry more about the old ladies and children as he stated he was not worried about no one but himself. He in my eyes is disgusting for not helping. It makes me sick.

 by: missy3   08/02/2008 03:40 PM
  And no one thought....

to whack the scum bag from behind while he was in action. A bloody heavy bag would have stopped him to be contained, people make me sick!

  bus murder

Well this was not 4 in the morning they had been of the bus for a break in portage so I doubt everyone was fast asllep worrying about there families I also doubt families were on the bus together. I find it odd that no one helped I would of I know that in myself I could not watch this guy get stabbed multiple times and then to go back on after to see if he was alive how about when they were on there.

I understand it would of been hectic but most people with adrenaline would of helped.

Winnipeg is the murder capital but now a days people so easily just ignore anyone in trouble a perfect example is that case in the U.S. where everyone watched not helped that older man who was killed, I feel this happened on this bus also.

The guy is scum who the courts will protect and just like the ax murderer that killed two people here and set the house on fire who is out now already this guy will walk early as well.

I don't agree in all death sentences unless there is no doubt this is a case I wish could have that but then we don't have that here.

As I said before I hope he gets his in jail.

  update on bus killer

Turns out there was a leak to the internet from police recodings and transmissions and the police referred to this maniac as a badger, why because the sick individual was eating the flesh of the victim. This was not to be released and one has to wonder how it even got leaked.

Here is the ticket to insanity I wonder if these actions were deliberate in front of the RCMP to build a case for insanity.

I wonder if the murder charge will be upgraded to 1st degree I doubt this man walked on with a big knife for the hell of it I would say that shows intent to committ a murder.

I think as days go by this is going to be more gruesome yet. The details I mean.

leaves everybody blind. You guys know it.

But then again, locking this guy up will cost more than 20k a year to taxpayers.

Damn dilemma.

  Hello @ missy3

Thank you for the update! This really is a disturbing case, do you have any links?

 by: captainJane     08/03/2008 03:00 PM
  link to story

excerpt:

The RCMP issued a news release stressing they had not given permission to use the transmission as they are "operational police communications and as such are not meant for public consumption. "
"Okay, Badger's at the back of the bus, hacking off pieces and eating it," the transmission ends.

This man is definitely a sick human being I feel so bad for the victims family.

"While I wouldn't call the people who ran "brave", I wouldn't call them cowardly. Fight or flight kicked in and they all chose "flight". Quite wisely, it would seem."

Now that kind of reasoning I can respect, and I agree that's probably the way it happened, so calling them cowards might be a bit harsh. However it still saddens me that there weren't at least a few people didn't try to help.
