Scientists at the University of California, Santa Cruz are victims of the latest in a surge of firebomb attacks against animal researchers. One scientist was forced to flee his home with his children after a bomb was ignited on his porch.
Santa Cruz police Capt. Steve Clark said "That device had a real potential to put that family in jeopardy," and called the bomb "a Molotov cocktail on steroids." Another researcher's car was destroyed by a firebomb while parked on campus.
The North American Animal Liberation has not received any claims of responsibility for the attacks. A spokesman said, "It's regrettable that certain scientists are willing to put their families at risk by choosing to do wasteful animal experiments."
