"Twilight" Author Gives Up on 5th Book After Draft Leaked on Web

Stephenie Meyer, the author of the "Twilight" series, has announced she will be putting the fifth book in the serie, "Midnight Sun" on hold indefinitely after a draft copy of the manuscript was leaked on the web.

Meyer said on her Web site that, "This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control."

She added that: "I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on "Midnight Sun," and so it is on hold indefinitely." "Midnight Sun" retold the first novel, but from the point of view of the series hero, Edward Cullen.

So basically you punish your fans that didn't have anything to do with it too.

It's a pretty good way to be forgotten by people, if that's what she is trying to do.

Exactly my thought as well.

What do the fans have to do with this? One person puts it up on the Internet and all fans need to learn about copyright?

If it's about the money then she should sue the idiot publisher who put it out there.

If it's about artistic control then I guess I'd say that if you're that hung up about it then don't distribute it until it's done.

I would hope this author would gain some perspective from the fact that she is even able to abandon a project mid-way to 'make a point'. How many people are free to do that in their careers?

  It's on the net...
...but I'm quite sure true fans would buy the book. Most probably won't know where to look.
Maybe she didn't feel she was up to being able to create another good novel, or got tired of the series so it trying to find an excuse to stop. /conspiracy theory

Personally, she is a horrible writer to begin with. This is a blessing.
