A shooting outside of a Springfield, Missouri nightclub that left one man wounded was reportedly caused by a disturbance over either a stolen hat or a woman, depending upon who is telling the story as witnesses statements conflict.
Johnathon L. Kates, 21, of Ozark, MO has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action for allegedly shooting at two men with an AR-15 assault rifle. Kates has pleaded innocent to the charges during his arraignment.
One of the victims was shot while trying to disarm Kates after he retrieved the weapon out of his truck following a fight. The victim was wounded during the scuffle but disarmed the suspect, struck him with his own rifle and kicked him in the head.
