Republicans File Complaint Against Obama's Trip to Dying Grandmother

The California Republican Party today filed a complaint concerning Barack Obama's use of campaign funds during the visit he recently made to Hawaii to say goodbye to his dying grandmother for the last time.

Democratic officials say that the trip had been cleared by lawyers beforehand but Republicans argue that if no campaigning was being conducted during the trip it should have been paid for privately.

The filing of the complaint, the legality of which has yet to be determined, is being viewed as politically damaging, especially in light of the announcement the same day regarding Obama's grandmother dying (SN reported).

These people (reps) are so blinded by their hate that they make these stupid cases that have no founding. Just leave it alone. As more & more time passes I'm driven further to the left & I find that the Reps are no longer what they used to be.

Idiots.

  You know what?

I've donated over $100.00 in cash, and even more than that in my time to help Barack Obama with his campaign. I would have donated the same amount knowing he would use it to visit his sick dying grandmother.

Shame on the Republican Party of California. That was part of MY MONEY that I donated, and if he chose to use it to visit his grandmother one last time, then great.

Barack Obama for President - 2008.

  Thus

the slime continues to flow from the GOP campaign. Isn't it a Grand Ole Party?

The only people allowed to complain about this

Would be people that donated to Obama's campaign, seeing he used no public funding like McCain did. This complaint makes no sense to me. Pot calling kettle black at best.

  The Republicans can

attempt to swindle obama all they want.. today's the voting day, people have made their choices and nothing they can make up or whine about holds any imporantence anymore.. This is more like a "post-whining" thing now

It hasn't stopped them from trying though. Last night I saw that stupid commercial about Obama and Rev. Wright no less than 5 or 6 times. I've had numerous chain text messages saying that voting has been extended to wednesday for Obama voters. Although anyone who falls for that shouldn't be voting anyway lol.

I work with a British civilian who heard the same tripe.

"Hear the gag about the polls being open for Obama for an extra day?"...

My reply was near to your last sentence.

  @skittlesloli - Good republicans

are really Libertarians today.

Republicanism as of late is more along the lines with National Socialism(Nazism & Fascism) than with any sort of "Conservative" styled party. They are jingoistic in nature, are very aggressive in pushing out socialist subsidies such as free corporate handouts to energy companies and banking industries, they are extremely anti-democratic(not the party but the system), etc.

Democrats are no better though... However they do not seem to be as jingoistic and extreme right as Republicans are. Republicanism was hijacked by Neoconservatives and as a result, the party is nothing close to what it once was.

Instead of being the party of Lincoln, they are closer in line to the Party of Mao or Mussolini.

  I'm not believing this

This may be the biggest public relations blunder the stupid Republican party has ever pulled out of their rear. They make me want to puke. Even if their claim has merit, it just makes THEM look bad for bringing it up.

Did Palin Use Her Own Funds To Fly Home To Vote

or is she using campaign funds, or Alaskan State money?
She is going back to Alaska to vote then return to Arizona to finish the campaign and party. Either way that is an awful expensive ballot she is going to cast. An absentee would have been a lot cheaper.

  Yeah , Jon

Looking for the words to describe this shallow, heartless, callous, cold-blooded, cold-hearted, compassionless, hard, hard-boiled, hardened, hardhearted, obdurate, stonyhearted, unfeeling behavior of these also-ran, bankrupt, clinker, defeated, dud, failure, fiasco, flop, hardcase, lemon, misfit, nebbish, sad sack, schlemiel, schlimazel, poor sport, stooge, vanquished, underdog, unfortunate, washouts. Just can't find them.

  by: ichi     11/05/2008 12:34 AM
  so...

according to the Republican party, it's perfectly fine to use tens of thousands of dollars from campaign funds to dress Miss Pretty Pretty Princess but NOT okay to use, at most, a couple thousand to say goodbye to a dying relative...

i'm so glad this is almost over. a few more hours...

  Palin

spends 150 grand on clothes paid for by the campaign, but Obama can't fly to see a dying relative? When will these people learn to stop bickering over meaningless stuff?!

  The law is the law.

Palin's clothes belong to the Party bought with the Parties money. Further those cloths are slated to be auctioned off for charity. As were Hill's compaign clothing and Obama's custom suits.

As for using compaign funds for private travel, the law is the law just because his ganny was dieing doesn't mean he can ignore the law. He knowningly used teh compaign funds in disreguard of the rules and has been called on it. Dismiss it if you want, but it's a sign of things to come. Most of the corporate scamming happened under Clinton's watch and was caught under Bush's.

The liberals also tend to forget that the Conservatives will burn their own at the stake when caught with their hand in the cookie jar. While liberals Excuse their President outright lieing to them on national TV about Oval office sex games.

All that will come of this is that he will have to pay the party back and it will be done.

While the conservatives excuse their President outright lying to them on national TV about WMD's, and the fundamentals of our economy being strong.

  Anyone else

think it was a really stupid idea to criticize him on a trip to see his dying grandmother? Not very good PR.

  1 and 1

I have one question and one comment.

First, Who paid for the trip? It was personal business so Obama should have paid for it "out of pocket", if not then did he abuse campaign funds?

Next, I do find it curious that not long after Obama went to Hawaii, the controversy over his Birth Certificate was allegedly resolved by the record clerk in Hawaii, when she released the statement that she had seen the certificate, and the record were then sealed. Coincidence? I doubt it.

  by: ACRScout   11/07/2008 12:50 PM
  @ACRScout

The "issue" of his birth certificate was resolved months ago by a team of FactCheck.org staffers in August.

The updates reflect what you are talking about but the validity of the document was proven then.

You tin hat nutters never get old ^_^

Yeah, I heard that BS factcheck story published by the same people for which Obama sat on an educational board, Annenberg.

They also posted the picture of the certificate, unfortunately they didn't have anyone on staff smart enough to get a new pic, and they published the same phony certificate that the Daily Kos was using, it isn't yet resolved except in the minds of the Obama faithful, but now that he's in office and absolute power corrupts absolutely, the real story will never see the light of day. Not that it matters, he's only a government temp employee anyway. My only concern in the whole affair is that I finally get to see how many truly incompetent people there are in the U.S. that can be conned into voting for a guy that pisses down their backs, tells them it's raining...and they believe it.

I'll make you a deal, you can give your $100.00 to Obama to cover his trip home, if he will reimburse me the $6000.00 I paid in taxes that he voted to give to bail out the banks and mortgage holders who are going to get lowered principal and interest rates on the mortgages that they were stupid enough to sign from Freddie and Fannie.

Did you even look at the link? They DID take their own pictures. You can see them for yourself. You sound like that idiotic lawyer who was essentially laughed out of court when he tried to sue Obama over this. He was born in the US, get over it.

Wait, I know how to keep you busy... Since the Reagan administration the US government has been keeping a secret virus that they will inject into citizens during the Obama presidency. Once inside, the virus will control your mind. The only way to stop it is to inject a solution of gasoline and isopropyl alcohol. It must be EXACTLY 1 part gasoline, 2 parts isopropyl alcohol. Quick! To the drugstore before all the syringes are pulled off the shelf to prevent you from saving yourself!
