Palin Didn't Know That Africa is a Continent

Fox News has reported that former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was not aware that Africa is a continent, not a country, according to campaign aides. Palin is scorched by aides in a special project by Newsweek magazine.

Palin was also unable to name the countries in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and aides said she spent much more on clothing than the reported $150,000 of Republican campaign funding.

One aide angrily described the Palins going on shopping sprees, saying they were "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast." The aide said the truth will be shown when the GOP audits the campaign.

The USA had a lucky escape from this woman getting into or close to power.

haha agreed, thats one hell of a dodged bullet right there.

I cannot believe that McCain picked her. Really. How in the heck does someone like her have a potential shot at the most powerful job in the world?

  by: vash_the_stampede     11/06/2008 10:35 AM
  I'll call BS

Simply because I can't believe anyone is that dumb. This is elementary level geography here.

  by: Jaded Fox     11/06/2008 10:45 AM
  Wow...

And key members of the Republican Party with their whole, "I'm confident she's qualified to be President" crap.

Well, maybe it wasn't a total lie, given the current standards as set by Bush.

  by: Dayron   11/06/2008 10:51 AM
  @Jaded

Did the 2000 and 2004 elections teach you nothing?

People ARE that stupid. In far more areas than elementary geography.

Palin couldn't be bothered to learn about the world around her. Not when she felt such a duty to keep her on Russia's every move.

  by: Dayron   11/06/2008 10:55 AM
  'Doh.

Keep her EYE on...

  by: Dayron   11/06/2008 10:56 AM
  Too busy keeping track...

Keeping an eye on the Russians and Canadians was a full-time job in Alaska (that and redistributing wealth from the big oil companies to the taxpayers), geography took a back seat.

I know plenty of people who unfortunately have little clue about the world outside their home state. This revelation is not a total surprise to me.

  McCain's Choice

of Sarah Palin was the death knell for his campaign. The nail in the proverbial coffin.

  by: LeroyJenkins     11/06/2008 12:46 PM
  Wow

this woman didn't even have a passport until just a few years ago. She has no interest in world affairs, which is why it was so dangerous for McCain to pick her.

  I've heard people

actually say they would vote for this lunatic if she ran for president in 4 years!

  by: M.I.A.Elite     11/06/2008 01:28 PM
  Couldn't name the countries in NAFTA?

Theres three countries in the agreement and theres three countries in North America. Seems pretty straightforward.

Does she know what a free trade agreement is?

  by: jamesmc   11/06/2008 03:03 PM
  Lets just try

to remember all this when she goes up for President in 2012... Supposedly she is a "shoe-in" since she got a taste of what real power is like and that the republican party really stood behind her...
Yeah, Palin's pretty all right, pretty dumb...

  by: Allanthar     11/06/2008 03:13 PM

Actually I thought that there were more countries in N America than just Mexico, the US and Canada?

What about:

Anguill
Antigua and Barbuda
Aruba
Bahamas
Barbados
Belize
Bermuda
British Virgin Islands
Cayman Islands
Clipperton Island
Costa Rica
Cuba
Dominica
Dominican Republic
El Salvador
Greenland
Grenada
Guadeloupe
Guatemala
Haiti
Honduras
Isla Aves
Jamaica
Martinique
Montserrat
Navassa Island
Netherlands Antilles
Nicaragua
Panama
Puerto Rico
Saint Barthelemy
Saint Kitts and Nevis
Saint Lucia
Saint-Martin
Saint Pierre and Miquelon
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
San Andrés y Providencia
Trinidad and Tobago
Turks and Caicos Islands
United States Virgin Islands

Some are territories of larger countries but many are actual countries.

You are correct in naming the wonderful countries of North America.

Unfortunately, NAFTA is only agreement between Canada, USA, and Mexico. Mexico has it's on agreements with upwards of 40 other countries but it is not part of NAFTA.

Are gulf islands literally North America or are they just on the North American tectonic plate or is that the same thing?

In other words, if I'm on a boat in the middle of the gulf of Mexico am I technically in North America?

@ Jaded Fox: Ha! Good comment. LOL

what shade of lipstick Palin is wearing this week?

  by: VermiciousG     11/06/2008 05:51 PM
  One of McCain's biggest mistakes

but this whole story about her lack of geographical knowledge was reported anonymously. Kind of lame if you ask me.

NOT defending her at all (I think she's an evangelical nut). Just that this story is unfounded.

  by: barryman9001   11/06/2008 06:19 PM
  @slavefortheman

Perhaps you did not know, those countries are all considered "central America" or just plain not America (Greenland). There really are only three north American nations.

  by: H. W. Hutchins   11/06/2008 06:26 PM
  @Hutchins

Central America is a region of North America. They are a part of our continent.

  by: Mr. Wright     11/06/2008 07:12 PM
  The continents are ..

Asia
Europe
Africa
Australia (Yes, it's a country too.)
Antartica
North America
South America

  by: Walkingstick     11/06/2008 07:43 PM

Maybe Palin was thinking of Australia when she said Africa?

Palin in 2012

XD

  by: teh_epic     11/06/2008 08:02 PM
  @H. W. Hutchins

No you are incorrect. As Mr. Wright pointed out, Central America is a region within N America.

Especially certain nations are directly attached to the N American Continent.

Ex: One example is Belize. It is right on the Yucatan peninsula.

I'm sorry but the only words I have to sum up how I feel about Palin anymore, are "stupid c**t". And that last word is one I never use!

  by: Jediman3     11/06/2008 08:27 PM
  @my last comment

Er I meant that some are connected to the N American mainland and are not islands.

  by: slavefortheman     11/06/2008 08:36 PM
  Oh please!

99.9% of the people who know my name is Asia don't know its a continent.

"Oh your name is Asia? Like the country?"
ALL THE TIME! I can count the number of people in my entire life who got the 'contintent/country' thing right on one hand... no joke.

It happens, and not just to Palin.
How is this even news?

  by: skittlesloli   11/06/2008 08:41 PM
  @skittlesloli

The difference between everybody else and Palin, is Palin was chosen as a running mate who could have been VP.

The problem is that as VP she should damn well know that Africa is a fricken continent!

Maybe if she didn't flunk out of college 4 times...

  by: Jediman3     11/06/2008 08:52 PM
  @skittles

You're smarter than that, you know we don't need one of the JayWalk All-Stars running the country!

  by: l´anglais     11/06/2008 09:13 PM
  Palin in 2012!

I hope she tries to run for President in 2012 and picks Sheri Shepherd from The View as her running mate for Vice President. Sheri thought the Earth was flat and that nothing predated Christianity.

"Nice car, nobody behind the wheel." No chance in hell they'll get elected, and Obama will keep on into his second term.

  by: BeyondtheTech     11/06/2008 09:36 PM
  You can't be serious...

So now in order to qualify for VP nomination you have to know all the continents for.... what reason.

I don't know who the jaywalk allstars are, or what they are, or what jaywalking has to do with it... would I qualify if jaywalking is a prerequisite(sp)?

I'm not sure why its an issue since shes not going to be VP and I know you all have heard much more stupid things coming out of politician's mouths.

For example.
"I did not inhale."
Scary huh?

  by: skittlesloli   11/06/2008 10:39 PM
  @skittles

YES! Yes you do have to know all 7 continents!!! F-ing DUH!!

  by: VermiciousG     11/06/2008 10:56 PM
  @skittlesloli

Yeah I have to agree with Verm. A 3rd grade education I would think is prerequisite to being VeeP.

  by: slavefortheman     11/06/2008 10:58 PM
  @skittlesloli

I agree with a lot of what you have to say. But do you really think that the Vice President of the most powerful country on Earth shouldn't know basic geography? The role of the United States has become increasingly a worldly one, embroiled in foreign affairs as much as domestic. For a vice president to *not* know basic geography is unacceptable. Would you trust this person to become president, who would then have the capability to rend the world asunder?

  by: vash_the_stampede     11/06/2008 11:50 PM
  "Madam Vice President,

we have an urgent briefing for you. Intelligence reports suggest that Egyptian terrorist groups are recruiting from their African neighbors such as Libya for a wave of attacks on Israel."

(If Madam Vice President's poor grasp of geography prevents her from understanding this sentence, she's already in way over her head.)

  okok one at a time

@verm: No need to yell, Its not like I can hear you or anything.

@slave: Thats fine, but then you should also have the same criticism for anyone else who has made a mistake.
Anyone who doesn't know you have to inhale to smoke pot shouldn't be president either, but Bill served two terms, that's far more retarded than getting countries and continents mixed.

Also, if this is the case we should fire all of our teachers, even my geography teacher called my name a country.

@vash
I find it amazing that nowhere in the rooms of the US Government do they have a map, cause that's what you guys are making it sound like.

--------------------------
Its funny that the prerequisite comment I made is the only thing addressed.
Unless I'm just oblivious as to the reason why exactly this is news, you know, since shes not even in the race anymore and is Alaska's problem once again.

Anyway, I was simply making a statement, not out to get screamed at over the internet, just making an observation.

I should just quit asking questions or stating my opinion since it only gets me yelled at by you people.

I didn't yell at you :( I like you =-D

The point is, she shouldn't need a map to know these things. Nobody running for president/vice president should need a map to point out our continents; we only have seven of them for crying out loud.

I guess that Miss South Carolina was proven right after all. I kind of feel bad for belittling her intelligence... she was just talking about people like Sarah Palin.

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because uh , some people out there in our nation don't have maps."

http://www.youtube.com/...

  by: vash_the_stampede     11/07/2008 01:23 AM
  @skittles

This is news because she was about seven percentage points in the popular vote from being elected to the second-most powerful office in the United States.

Also, as with any type of smoking, "not inhaling" is generally understood to mean not drawing the smoke into your lungs. Clinton was trying to make people believe that he smoked a joint the way you'd smoke a fine cigar, only drawing the smoke into your mouth.

  by: l´anglais     11/07/2008 01:24 AM
  @skittles

I feel it's an issue because we are saying that the people we place in the White House or next in line for the seat are the best qualified to lead our country through domestic and international issues. I don't want Joe Sixpack, Joe the plumber, or Joe Schmoe there. I want someone who knows more about foreign leaders and countries than the average guy/gal.

We saw what happened to foreign relations when we put the guy who was "One of us" in office. I want someone who speaks well, looks polished, and has a general knowledge of the world. Palin scares me for not remember basic facts. What you said about people thinking Asia is a country also makes me groan.

It's Australasia not Australia.

Australia is a country...

  by: dook   11/07/2008 01:52 AM

You just gave an in-depth explanation of my point as to how retarded that was.

Most people have a "general" understanding of the world, and yeah it sucks she didn't know or whatever, and yeah the popular vote this and whatever, but last I learned its the electorals that make the decision and Obama won by more than twice as many votes, so I don't know why you're all shaking in your boots about the impossibility of her having to point at a map.

I wonder what kind of shit Obama would receive for something like that, he better get it hard, because if a VP who lost can't make a mistake on a continent, then the president can't make any at all.

ignorance tends to ignore ignorance.

as it may not be a big deal to you..

i find it astounding that somebody could be in such a position of power, yet have such a low level of education.

all you Palin lovers just admit it.. this women was a twit. you know it.. i know it .. everybody knows it.

just let her go back to Alaska and Rest In Peace..

  by: DanHarvey   11/07/2008 03:04 AM
  @skittlesloli

Its not a mistake when you make them repeatedly. Its called ignorance. A person in her position has no excuse for being that stupid. She is governor of a state for christs sake! I personally dont want my leaders to be of bellow average intelligence or else they will make bellow average decisions!

Simple as that.

Of course if the voters pick someone that dumb, they are equally guilty. either that or they have been tricked.

If you watch the poll numbers for McCain, the steadily dropped right after Palin's Couric interview. Meaning her ignorance was a big factor in people not voting for McCain.

  @skittlesloli

When I say repeated mistakes I do not mean saying the same thing but rather the simple things should made us aware of. Not knowing basic 3rd grade geography is just one of many mistakes. Just watching the Katie Couric interview was like watching Miss Teen South Carolina all over again!

  by: slavefortheman     11/07/2008 04:16 AM
  "you palin lovers?"

That better not have been directed at me in any way shape or form.

Anyone who even remotely toys with the thought of me loving or even /liking/ Palin (and McCain for that matter) needs to go play in traffic for making such a stupid and baseless assumption, but if you were here right now I would probably throw my computer at you... its okay, it probably won't break.

Again, she isn't in the race anymore, so why do you guys care? Am I going to have to repeat that every single time in order to get a response that doesn't have to do with her leading or VPing the US since its /not/ going to happen?

You call me ignorant but you can only regurgitate what others have said without taking what was said into consideration?
(let me give you a hint... the election was two days ago... and Obama won... just in case you missed it.)

But it looks like no one is going to even take that into consideration, so whatever, I'm done with this gossip thread.

"Palin Didn't Know That Africa is a Continent"
Well, there are a lot of Americans that don't know anything about geography. I don't know if they don't teach it in schools anymore, the people don't care to learn it or they are too stupid to learn. I think it's the latter.

  by: JonSmith     11/07/2008 04:21 AM

It was directed at you.

palin lover..

the reason people care is for some reason almost half of Americans still voted for that twit.

and the reason I keep bugging you is I think your a tool.

Dodged a buttet? I would say more like "evaded a mushroom cloud"! Can you imagine her thumb on the buttons of our nuke force? That would probably be the first thing she would "need" to see, the "buttons" for launch. You see, up in Alaska where she comes from, they know all about "Bears", and how to repel them. How disappointed she would be to find that the "buttons" she heard of don't exist anymore! She would want them "reinstalled, pronto boys!" The problem here? People don't like to be called stupid. They don't like their heroes to be called stupid either. Sarah Palin has been shown to be a game show flunkie, and her supporters are too vain to cut her loose and set her adrift, they would allow one shortsighted, fearmongering, pandering political nobody to bring down the whole house! A very strong case can be made here for forced sterilization, of people like the Palins, and their rabbid supporters!

Most of the stories are a bit too far fetched and conflict blatantly with her public appearances, I call BULLSHIT on these and other stories, created by McCain and his staffers in an attempt to save face for their collaboration with the DNC to throw the election to Obama in return for special favors in the future.

  by: ACRScout   11/07/2008 12:37 PM
  @skittlesloli

If I might respectfully suggest, you seem to be an idiot. If "Porky Pig" were put on the screen with McCain you would be defending his "right" to be VP no? Si, I mean oui,oui?? There is no map on the wall in the Lincoln bedroom to consult at three am. The entourage that would be "required" to accompany Sarah Palin everywhere she went in order to "bring her up to speed" on things like "What is Afica" would just be too expensive in these tough economic times.

  by: Duddya   11/07/2008 12:40 PM
  @Freakypeeper

I guarantee that Obama can name all 50 states, and most more than half of their capitals. The comment you make was taken out of context, and may have just been a minor reversion to his native "ebonical" tongue! You should move in with "skittlesloli", I think she's a female! "Peas in a pod" as they say!

  by: Duddya   11/07/2008 12:46 PM

Very interesting theory. I would almost go along with in not for some recent history, namely the alleged election of one George W. Bush, not once, but twice. I would sooner think that McCain just said "screw it", I might as well have a good looking VP, just in case the American people are as dumb as Rove says. He may not have wanted to be president, it's a lot of work, you have to be at it for long hours, and this country is really screwed up. If there were any time to hand the reins to a "unconventional" president, it is now. Whatever happens from this day? It's that "black presidents fault". It started the day after when the "markets dropped"! Yup, the black guy is responsible once again! Obama is going to need all the energy he can muster to get this "bag of twine" straightend out. Real Americans are confident that he will! For you "disbelievers", please stand aside, or move to some other country while we "get 'er done" here at home.

  by: Duddya   11/07/2008 01:03 PM

Yea you're right... 57 is 'ebonical' for 50... I take it, at your school they graded on a 'curve'?

That's why they call it "Heinz 57" right? Is that all you got on Obama? He had a brain fart speaking off the cuff one day? Palin had many chances to show how ignorant she is, and never failed!

  by: Duddya   11/07/2008 01:32 PM
  @Duddya

You practicing some sort of "Weird Science" experiment? What has Bush getting elected twice got to do with McCain colluding with the DNC? McCain has always been a DNC collaborator, how do you think we wound up with McCain/Feingold?

To think that McCain said "screw it" when he picked Palin is ludicrous, he was running a shabby campaign long before she came on the scene. The only reason he beat the others in the Primaries was from Dems crossing over and re-registering as Repubs to sabotage the primaries. Many of them were also probably disappointed, since they crossed over to select McCain as the one they preferred to run against Hillarity Clintoon, but wound up with Obama instead.

I agree, McCain didn't want to be president, so he ran token opposition in order to hand Obama the win.

While I don't agree that the country is as screwed up as the left thinks it is, the U.S. does and alway has had it share of problems. But you are correct when you say that "whatever happens from this day, is Obama's fault. Including the markets tanking following his election.

As for you "believers", I am not one of the mind numbed Messiah followers that elected Obama, I did not vote for any President (neither one was the candidate I supported in the primaries), but all my down ballot candidates (all conservatives) did win.

The big question now looming on the horizon is...

When Obama botches the nations foreign policy (I assume he will, as he's likely to obey Biden's dictates on that matter, and Biden has been radically wrong on every foreign policy call in recent history), and he also runs domestic policy into the ground with his own "spread the wealth" policy, and with a Dem President, a Dem controlled House, and a Dem controlled Senate, who are they going to shift the blame onto? The collective track record of the Lefty Dems indicates that they will never accept responsibility for their own actions. But now there is no "It's Bush's Fault" to fall back on.

I don't think the Bill Clinton quote "I never inhaled" was intended to imply he didn't know how to smoke it...

Just that he didn't inhale. Or, never actually got high.

I mean, yeah, its BS. But it made for a good joke on MTV.

No, actually, it was the

"57 states",

The "Uncle" (or was it grand father?) He doesn't know. Who served in the Red Army (required if he liberated Dachau)

The slip about "my Muslim faith".

The we can save as much oil as we pump if we just inflate our tires.....

Between Obama and Bidens "Stand up Chuck" and "theres gonna be an international disaster", these two have cornered the gaffe market.

As for Palin and the geography flop, I'm waiting on the video.

Are we really going to take all the major media reported gaffes, tally them up, and then point out who made the most flubs? We're bored, aren't we?

  Bored??? You Bet

Now that the election is over, I am at a loss as to what to do. No election news, and all we can do is sit back to find out what Obama's first major screw up might be. He's not likely to do ANYTHING of interest, unless it is something in a controversial vein, in which case, based on his past comments, he will always chose to screw up in some major way.

Yeah, yeah, same old joke, but still not liberal Obama junkie, has been able to tell me, while you doubt that she can see Moscow from Alaska...Hows the view of Moscow from Chicago? Obama is a lame assed rookie with no experience beyond voting "Present" and will very likely lead this country to the lowest points of it's history. Remember, Biden warned you about the impending international crisis that they are gonna screw up, and still demand your mindless obedience.

Just because you can see an area of land doesn't mean that you automatically know everything about it -- it's foreign policies, etc. If you think otherwise then you must be a firm believer in osmosis. Also to counter your question about 'any Obama supporter..': I have yet to see any McCain/Palin supporter who is able to show any grounds that Palin knows anything about foreign policy (or even our national policy for that matter). Just admit that she was picked purely as a strategic maneuver to pick up extra votes (because of her being female and trying to pick up Hillary's votes, charm(?), 'reformer', 'conservative', 'religious') and not for economic, foreign relations, etc. reasons. Also I just have to ask (since it is such a silly observation that Russia can't be seen from Chicago so that means no knowledge can be known to anyone residing in Chicago) is Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, North Korea, Syria, Palestine, Congo, Darfur, etc, etc, etc. visible from Washington D.C.? If not then we be all in trouble no matter who is the President!

Might I suggest an "All-African Corps"? This will be made up of inner city kids, and anyone who wants ot join them. They will be highly skilled warriors who will be seemlessly inserted into the "nation" of Africa to stop the Bosnians from killing the Armenians! (Quote from Sarah Palin)

  by: Duddya   11/07/2008 04:18 PM
  @treyjazz

I have never said that Palin knows much about anything other than negotiating trade with Japan over fishing rights and oil sales, which she did as Alaska Governor, or having a good energy policy, which she has done at the state level, or understanding that the Party isn't always right, which she has proven repeatedly.

I have never said that Palin was not picked for the political maneuvering reason you cited, just as surely as Biden was picked for the same political maneuvering purpose. Obama is devoid of foreign policy experience and he is also an inexperienced "rookie" in general, so the DNC drug out Biden to fill three major points, he is the token "Old White Guy" to balance Obama's Youth and Race. Biden was chose because he has foreign policy experience, while Obama has none. What the puppet masters at the DNC forgot to look at was that Biden has been wrong on nearly every policy call he has ever made.

The citing of the Moscow/Chicago (LOS) is that while Palin simply living in Alaska is no guarantee of her foreign policy expertise, the same holds true for Obama with his view from Chicago.

Better yet, why not take the Black Panthers that are looking for a fight when they stand in front of polling sites intimidating voters, and send them to Africa to fight against the oppressors in Darfur?

Oh, I almost forgot, they agree with the views of the Oppressors!

Never mind.

  by: ACRScout   11/07/2008 05:09 PM
  Is this a story at all??

Based on the national media this entire episode rose from a leak by a McCain staffer after the election and then it was an ANONYMOUS staffer. I have to wonder how much of this is Palin being truly clueless, and how much it is merely a staffer trying to cover their own ass, in hopes of keeping their job in a future McCain action campaign?

There you are wrong, Palin wrong! The "oppressors in Darfur are Arabs, they are called "janjaweed", or "evil ones" loosely translated. They are dark skinned nomadic tribes allied by convenience with the Sudanese Gov't. They are killing and displacing "black Africans". The "Black Panthers" WTF do you know about them? Not much, I am sure of that! And yes, that is PRECISELY what I had in mind! Air drop a black corps to KICK ASS on the Janjaweed! Maybe you have forgotton already, the "Chemical and Bio-weapons factory" in Sudan that we had to bomb before it was used to kill all of NYC and San Francisco, and Chicago, and Miami!!!! Janjaweed=Terrorist, ask your own Gov't.!

  Continents&Picking a Vice Pres.Candidate

To confuse everyone: There are only 5 continents in the traditional view. (see also the 5 olympic rings!) America (as a whole), Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. As far as I know only the Americans count more.

This pick of a candidate for Vice President convinces me again that it is not ok that just one man makes that pick! The whole campaign, the primaries and the electionsystem itself is (for my view) questionable and doesn't bring the best to become candidates and finally president!

Actually you don't know what the hell you are talking about, since I did not comment on the race or religion of anyone. But like most loony lefties you get you daily workout jumping to conclusions.

In the world of reality, the Janjaweed are Moslems conducting a campaign of religous purity by removing Christians who happen to be Black Africans.

My position was merely that we put people who happen to display a propensity toward violence into the fight. In this case they are the "Black Panthers".

When you refer to the "factory", don't you mean the pharmaceutical plant that Clinton blew up when he also took out a section of the Chinese embassy? At least that is what the left wing media fed us at the time the truth will likely never be known on that since most of Clinton's military adventures were never reported on truthfully, at least the three I was deployed on.

As for Palin's child's birth record, there is a very good reason that it has not been made public. That is that NO ONE HAS ASKED FOR IT YOU IDIOT. Except maybe a few moonbat bloggers who have no legal right to ask for the time of day let alone personal data.

Obama has years of experience on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee? Really? Years? That is one hell of a trick for guy who has been in the Senate for less than TWO YEARS. You may want to do some research before you continue to make an ass of yourself.

His first vote in the U.S. Senate was on 01/08/07 a vote of "Yea" on a Resolution to honor President Ford.

His last vote was on 01/10/08, Bill HR 1424, the 2nd Part of the Mortgage Bailout Bill on which he voted "Yea".

In addition, this ROOKIE has amassed a record that includes 303 votes that he didn't show up for, that means he failed to do his job 46.3% of the time.

Now where was it that his "Years" of Foreign relations experience came in? Oh yes he must have gotten all that foreign revelations experience when he was skipping out on doing his real job.

I do agree, in fact, I have long been an advocate of the position that we goofed with our system a long time ago. At one time in the U.S. there was no VP on the campaign ticket, there were two Presidential candidates, they would run against each other, and the people and the electors would vote, the candidate who got the most votes was the President, the other candidate was the VP. If every election contained one from each party, there would be a lot less bickering and more openness, because the Pres. and the VP being from different parties would both get all the same info all the time, no party secrets in the peoples business.

Um, idiot? Idiot ... ? Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004 -- he's served in it for four years now.

A little more information, since education is never a bad thing, never mind fears of coming across as "elitist" --

Obama voted in favor of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act.[72] In September 2006, Obama supported a related bill, the Secure Fence Act.[73] Obama introduced two initiatives bearing his name: Lugar–Obama, which expanded the Nunn–Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons,[74] and the Coburn–Obama Transparency Act, which authorized the establishment of USAspending.gov, a web search engine on federal spending.[75] On June 3, 2008, Senator Obama, along with Senators Thomas R. Carper, Tom Coburn, and John McCain, introduced follow-up legislation: Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Federal Spending Act of 2008.[76]

Obama sponsored legislation that would have required nuclear plant owners to notify state and local authorities of radioactive leaks, but the bill failed to pass in the full Senate after being heavily modified in committee.[77] In December 2006, President Bush signed into law the Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act, marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor.[78] In January 2007, Obama and Senator Feingold introduced a corporate jet provision to the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act, which was signed into law in September 2007.[79] Obama also introduced Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections[80] and the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007,[81] neither of which have been signed into law.
Obama and Richard Lugar visit a Russian mobile launch missile dismantling facility.[82]

Later in 2007, Obama sponsored an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges.[83] This amendment passed the full Senate in the spring of 2008.[84] He sponsored the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry, which has not passed committee, and co-sponsored legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.[85][86] Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program providing one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries.[87]

Committees

Obama held assignments on the Senate Committees for Foreign Relations, Environment and Public Works and Veterans' Affairs through December 2006.[88] In January 2007, he left the Environment and Public Works committee and took additional assignments with Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.[89] He also became Chairman of the Senate's subcommittee on European Affairs.[90] As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa. He met with Mahmoud Abbas before he became President of Palestine, and gave a speech at the University of Nairobi condemning corruption in the Kenyan government.[91][92][93][94]

Hey coolaid drinkers... Our President Elect, Barack Obama insulted Nancy Reagan talking about Seances. I give him credit for calling to apologize.... but you all are bashing Sarah when McCain and she has lost.
She is on her way back to Alaska. Our President-Elect has suffered a serious gaffe... It is so hard to get behind someone who can be so insensitive and callous to make this kind of remark. You guys must have cheered when he said it! Relax, Sarah is on her way back to Alaska. We have much entertainment listening to our next President of the United States!

After all, it was a careless joke, right? Pass the coolaid! I certainly hope he can control himself when he speaks to Putin, Medvedev, and that moron in Iran.

  by: mdymott   11/08/2008 03:33 AM
  The Nancy Reagan thing

was a gaffe. Palin not knowing Africa is a continent is evidence of her lack of education (or at least any that stuck).

Nobody's perfect. But the notion that someone could run for vice president not knowing grade-school geography should be scary to most people. It just goes to show that many in this country no longer value intelligence, knowledge and education that they act like Palin's ignorance is no big deal.

Remember, there's a lot of talk that she'd consider running for president, maybe in just four years. The president of the United States, the so-called "leader of the free world," should be familiar with the countries and continents in that world.

  Asthmatic child give him a breathalyzer

Yes and Sarah Palin, who is back home in Alaska, now is no longer a centerpiece of politics. Of course, anonymous sources reported by Foxnews say that you are attracted to Liberal Homosexual Christian Muslim Cannibals, so it must be true. Barak Obama, the President-Elect, just today (proof on video, not an anonymous source) showed that he was the great uniter by saying these idiotic things all to bring us together. Someone that is our next President, who thinks that giving an asthmatic child a breathalyzer, can help his asthma.. Suck down the Koolaid, you morons. We are just getting started. Wait till the intelligent Joe Biden says more like: 5. "I guarantee you, Barack Obama ain't taking my shotguns, so don’t buy that malarkey. They're going to start peddling that to you. I got two, if he tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem. I like that little over and under, you know? I'm not bad with it. So give me a break. Give me a break.'" --Joe Biden, threatening his running mate

4. "A man I'm proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next President of the United States — Barack America!" --Joe Biden, at his first campaign rally with Barack Obama 3. "When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened." –Joe Biden, apparently unaware that FDR wasn't president when the stock market crashed in 1929 and that only experimental TV sets were in use at that time

2. "Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me." --Joe Biden, speaking at a town hall meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire

1. "Stand up, Chuck, let 'em see ya." –-Joe Biden, to Missouri state Sen. Chuck Graham, who is in a wheelchair, Columbia, Missouri, Sept. 12, 2008 (Watch video clip)

Stand up Chuck! Sarah Palin wants to check out your pants! Sarah is the retard? My big ol hairy ass.... Once you guys stop bellyaching and spewing your hatred and venom, maybe we can become United again. You guys should attack Harry Reid and Nancy since they have been in control of the Senate since 2006. Now lets all tune into our TV's and watch what Franklin Roosevelt said about our country and what we are up against. You never believed FoxNews before now, but Carl Cameron reports something that some anonymous person said and OMG!!!!!!!

Sorry, just a few more questions for you.

As you probably know, a lot of President-Elect Barack Hussein Obama's support came from young people in their late teens and early 20s. If it hadn't been for them, President-Elect Obama's landslide victory would have been reduced to a narrow two-point victory, similar to President Bush's in 2004.

Do you place the blame for President-Elect Obama's victory on President Bush, then, since his No Child Left Behind education legislation was enacted when these young Obama supporters were still in school?

And if you do blame NCLB, why do you hate President Bush so much? Is it because you hate freedom?

stupid people say stupid things... people like you ACRscout, crayola, and ahhhhhhhhh are living proof of this.... are there any intelligent republicans left or have they all fled the sinking ship.

ronald reagan WAS NOT a framer of the US... infact he wasn't even alive when the framers of the US were alive.

ronald reagan's economic model IS directly responsible for this economic recession by his trickle up economics with busr sr and jr continued; which is nothing more than corporate socialism... spreading the wealth from the poor to the rich... yet as soon as someone comes along and points this out you spout out with stupuid racist ignorance... calling everyone that supports obama a kool-aid drinkers which is the racists most accectable slander to replace "n*gg*r".

obama is not a socialist, a marxist or a communist... this is all slader/libel, based on a very ignorant person's (joe the fake plumber) intrepretation of spreading the wealth... WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT TAXES HAVE ALWAYS DONE, they just usually favor the rich. under obama the poorer 95% will benifit rather than only the upper 5% which have exlusively under reagan, bush sr and bush jr.

playing to the rich NVER works, because once the poor can't afford the spend the economy stop... WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.

that system you favor is the equivelent to a poker game where theres a million dollar in play divide amongst 5 people with, 1 person have 950 million and the other 4 have 50 million divided amongst them (though not equally some of them will have less than a 6th of that of the richest out of these 4... when even 1 of these people has no money to gamble (spend) the game (economy) slows down, by 20%, when the next drops out its down to 40% the potential, ... and so forth and so forth until 1 person has all the money in which case the game stop, the economy crashes completely; on par or worse than the great depression (and this time theres alot further to fall)... when you support tax breaks for the rich... THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE ADVOCATING whether you understand it or not. the majority make the economy go-round not the upper 5%, if the upper 5% could carry and stimulate the economy as reagonics assumes there would be no recession... and yet there is... A GLOBAL RECESSION, heading straight for depression.

and of course you forget that not everyone CAN be employed, some have disabilities, other are simply unemployed because of the failed economy, and BTW the unemployment rate is much higher that officially stated as the offical unemployment rate in the US and canada only count those on umemployment not the total of people that actually are unemployed which is easily twice what the offical number is. ah hey but these people dont have the right to life... BECAUSE THEY'RE POOR RIGHT? and helping them is socialist... no its what decent humans do... in most countries this is a given... in the US its a right that still needs to be fought for.

we are not the brainwashed... influenced maybe buts it folks like you, ahhhhh, crayola and ACRscout that are the brainwashed... for weeks and months your ilk has been spreading the same deceitful misinformation, outright lies, and bigotry... its quite evident which people are brainwashed, they're the people that don't know up from down and left from right.

"All hail Amerika! The 594th Socialist Country! By the way, what happened to Rome? Just wondering."

for 1, america has been amerika since they decided to use the atomic bomb and became no better than nazi germany by ultilizing terrorism (by both definitions unlawful used of force and also indcrimainate killing) AS a country on another country. this is arguable since this can also he taken back to the spanish-american war which is again no better than that hitler and keiser wilhelm did 25 and 50 years later.

secondly, what ahppened to rome, i'm sure you have an answer but i'm also sure its wrongly as your probably going to blame it on socialism like the rest of your rant... when infact it was because of retardation... which guess what... its happening in north america too... from floride in the water, to piss-poor educations...

you know you inadvertly and anidrectly have an astonishing point here. as this is where north america, but especially the US headed... watch the movie idiocracy... thats a likely comedic version of north amwerica's future... we are already making many of same mistakes... like bush jr; electing an idiot to run a country. turning farming land more and more useless by forcing climate change to occur; in the movie farming land becames useless due to too much salt in the soil, in some part of the US and throught the world the US and other countries have made their countries and other countries unfarmable, by litterally scorching the earth and through use of DU which is radioactive and passes it on to people in the area and to and food and water it happens to come in contact with.

the US is the next last dying empire; and i say next last because i know the world hasn't outgrown the primitive need for dominance, and has a tendancy toward stupidity and vain violence, whcih currently the US epitomizes, as do several african nations (those less so domestically) and like israel in the middle east.

HAVOC666

you lost all credibility with me. You are definitely one of those koolaid drinkers.

And further more, to imply that I am a racist shows how stupid people say stupid things. You don't know me. I love it when you socialists yell racism... I hope that with Barak being elected, we can move away from morons calling people racist because they believe that they should be able to keep what they earn, not give it to people that will not work. The world has enough dictatorships and socialist countries. No we gotta lurch to the left. Everybody knows that President Reagan is not a founder. I guess I should have typed another line for those too ignorant to figure it out... I liked that speech and included it... your kind are nothing but robber barons that would steal from my pocket to give it to those who live off of the system. We have dumped over 7 Trillion Dollars since 1940 on the war on poverty. I think that we should end the war on poverty as all it has done has been a burden on taxpayer purses. It has not reduced poverty. Our shining government run education system and our social security system are other shining examples of how well the government can manage socialist programs. And I am a racist simply because I believe that the money I earn is mine. You are a prime example of stupid people saying stupid things.... and your comments about racism will not stick.

As far as I know Social Security was doing fine until the government started dipping into it (stealing it) and replacing it with IOUs.

"As soon as you mentioned Corporate Socialism
HAVOC666

you lost all credibility with me. You are definitely one of those koolaid drinkers. "

thats because youre an idiot... you like ansd want corporate socialism for some reason... you want everyone to take care of the rich and screw everyone else.

"And further more, to imply that I am a racist shows how stupid people say stupid things. You don't know me. I love it when you socialists yell racism..."

if your not raxcist quit using racism in your post, quit being a moronic-bigot.

"I hope that with Barak being elected, we can move away from morons calling people racist because they believe that they should be able to keep what they earn, not give it to people that will not work."

thats not racism, as you've likened it too... calling people kool-aid drinkers, N*gg*ers as you and others in the anti-obama crowd have...

i don`t need to know you to know your a racist... you`ve done that all your own.

``The world has enough dictatorships and socialist countries.``

dictatorship and socialism are not the same thing. and most industrialized socialist counties
are far better than the US, better healthcare, better economy, and better social values as a result.

No we gotta lurch to the left. Everybody knows that President Reagan is not a founder. I guess I should have typed another line for those too ignorant to figure it out...``

you mean too ignorant to figure out you mention something other than whaty you said... how ignorant i must be to correct you where you are clearly wrong. after all i`m magically supposed to knwo what you really mean ecven when your wrong.

``I liked that speech and included it... your kind are nothing but robber barons that would steal from my pocket to give it to those who live off of the system.``

actually i`m nothing of the sort... i just believe any decent country will take care of its worse of... the US does a piss poor job of this... so does canada (my country) for that matter... and thusly i barely consider either a decent country, especially by comparison to many european countries that actually do take care of their people.

``we have dumped over 7 Trillion Dollars since 1940 on the war on poverty. I think that we should end the war on poverty as all it has done has been a burden on taxpayer purses. it has not reduced poverty.``

gee you think the reason it doesn`t work might hacve something to do with the devaluation of the dollar, the 2 crashes of the economy since then or globalization (outsourcing), or redistrubition of the wealth from the poor to the rich (rather than vice versa if anyhting) ect... of course not those are REAL PROBLEMS which require REAL SOLUTIONS... and real solutions require intelligent thought... not following the same failed plan or going to an even worse plan that will quite litteral kill thousands of people because of greedy, ignorant turds like yourself.

``Our shining government run education system and our social security system are other shining examples of how well the government can manage socialist programs.``

thats a failure of YOUR GOVERNMENT not any economic system they might use... the publicn education system in north america (both the US and canada) ad been deliberately been made a failure to keep people ignorant, its deliberately underfunded, undersupplied and most teachers are simply unqaualified

``And I am a racist simply because I believe that the money I earn is mine. You are a prime example of stupid people saying stupid things.... and your comments about racism will not stick. ``

no i believe your a racist because you sound like one, calling everyone that supports obama a kool-aid drinker IS RACIST, if your ignorance forbids you to see this about yourself thats your fault.

the money you earn is your as mine is mine... that doesn`t mean you don`t pay taxes your your taxes wont go up or down... and that doesn;t mean taxes shouldn`t be used to help those people that need help...

your in my opinion are a callous (as evidenced by your lack of care for the poor), racist (as evidence by racial slurs; kool-aid drinkers), moron (as evidence by racism, blind hatred (largely based of lies and misrepresentation) and lack of distinction between slightly higher taxes for the rich within a capitalist economy and socialism.

you can disagree all you want but it doesn`t make it any less true...
as for racism i suspect your a closet racist who doesn`t even realize they are racist, many racists are like this.

Who will I blame two years from now? I'm going to take a cue from the Republicans and blame Bush, since Republicans continue to blame Bill Clinton for our economic crisis and the 9/11 attacks.

Yes, Obama proposes to raise taxes three percent on people making a quarter million a year or more, but where did you get the impression that the money will be "given to people who won't work for it?"

I'm glad to see you've moved on to complete sentences, now if you could treat people with a modicum of respect, you might be able to make a real point.

They are liars. She's the Governor of Alaska - of course she knows Africa is a continent, and not one country.

How do you know they are liars? Palin couldn't even tell Katie Couric one newspaper or magazine she reads. Not knowing Africa is a continent isn't outside the realm of believability.
