The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has declared that Burlington, the largest city in Vermont, is the healthiest city in the United States. 92% of the 40,000 residents say that they are in good or great health.
The people of Burlington are among the best exercised and rank near lowest in obesity, diabetes and other degrees of ill health. Some of their success comes from a culture that is focused on physical activities such as cycling, hiking and skiing.
Other factors leading to the great health of the city include the popularity of healthy foods, a public where 40% of the people have at least a college bachelor's degree and the city being financially sound with just 8% at the federal poverty level.
