Cure For AIDS Announced

Roberto Escobar Gaviria, brother of infamous drug warlord Pablo Escobar, has announced that he has found a cure for AIDS. The announcement was made to a local TV channel in Medellín.

Escobar claims he has been working on the cure since the 1980’s but was tight-lipped with details, telling reporters "I am very sorry, but medical questions like such I can not answer, because they are part of the patent we are applying for..."

If true, the announcement will certainly be ironic as Escobar’s brother is credited for being responsible for over 4,000 deaths; his brother could save the lives of 33 million AIDS victims.

  im not holding my breatthe

while i'm not saying its impossible that such an unlikely individual found a cure
if he did it begs to question what all the other research companies do with their million dollar grants.

maybe he was testing differnt cures/mehtods on that 4,000.. after all if we were allowed to test on humans wthout animals first there wouldnt be a cure for diabetes... in rats..

  Wow

Wouldn't it be a bitch if this guy found a cure from AIDS using drug money? How fast do you think the US would try to claim the rights to it?

I am not holding my breath that he found the cure, but Goddess bless him if he has.

  Ah.

Sniff this. Feel better? Cured!

  by: theironboard     12/12/2008 05:47 PM
  Why not?

I find it very plausible that a individual would find a cure to AIDs.

There is no money in a cure, but if you can find a way to keep the dieing people to live longer you can keep charging them.

The fact that it comes from someone with such a high profile name does raise suspicions. Still, very possible.

  ok

Maybe not "No" money, but VERY LITTLE in comparison to maintaining millions of slow deaths throughout the world.

  simple cure

Stop giving aids patient AZT. AZT is a DNA CHAIN DESTRUCTOR...seen to me giving this to an already sick individual would only kill them faster and more painfully.

And hard drug users have the same problem in the long run as aids patients. pumping chemicals in your veins WILL destroy your immune system in the long run.
For those wondering what I'm talking about check Aids:fact or fraud on google video.

US? Nope. Other nations would be able to take a stab at it as well. But thanks for your blatant attack on the US. :)

Goddess bless? Um, no. Sorry.

#1 I am American and I do think they will try and claim it saying that his brothers sales of drugs was a direct result of finding the cure and since his brothers #1 buyer is the US it should be ours.

#2 Goddes bless? Sure why not I see enough of God Bless so yeah Goddess Bless, Alla Bless, Buddah Bless whichever faither you are.

I've just looked at the wiki entry and according to that it repressed the reverse transcriptase enzyme. If memory serves, reverse transcriptase converts RNA to DNA. And in all life except viruses, DNA is formed only ever from copying DNA and is then transcribed and translated into RNA which makes it possible to code for proteins and such. Point being, Humans don't use reverse transcriptase inside the body ever, outside we may use it for cloning or making gene libraries.

  I can see the opening to I am Legend

WE have the cure for aids, everyone we gave the meds to no longer have aids, we gave it to 10,000 people and now 10,000 people are free of aids.... Then we fast forward to 2010 and there are only a handful of humans left on the planet, just millions of muitians that come out at night.

"God" pretty much covers the realm of any faith.

What you're doing is assuming that "God" is automatically synonomous with "Jehovah" or "Yaweh".

It's not.

This evil sumbich is praying on the desperate and hopeful. He's the worst kind of scam artist - one that'll not just take your money but waste what little precious good health you've got left.

Given the chance, I would stab this bastard with a needle withHIV positive blood.

  "i have invented the cure for AIDS!

...but i can't tell you anything about it because it's a secret. however, i'll be needing $50 million for clinical trials before i can show it to you. in cash. just put it on my private plane."

  by: cellardweller1   12/13/2008 11:14 PM
  Could be possible.

I find it hard to believ that with the billions drug ompanies "supposedly" spend on research, that there are not cures out there for many diseases.

I am sure that drug companies are keeping quiet about cures that are available. It is not in their finacial interests to cure people.

I was just wondering what is your faith? That has Goddess as a deity.

The ones you mentioned have God only, which I understand is masculine.

Only Allah is genderless. Whats yours?

  by: isuzu     12/14/2008 12:40 AM
  @tiggyfiggy.

Actually... we DO have reverse transcriptase activity and we use it ALOT. Lookup telomerase in eukaryotic replication.

Second: lookup retroviruses, then lookup HIV.

Third: Lookup virus targeted reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Specific RT's are found in certain viruses. I believe in the current HIV cocktail there is actually an RT inhibitor...but obviously it must not be fully functional BUT is why HIV isn't a killing virus anymore provided you take the meds.

Happy hunting.

  @Korzen

Umm dude for starters AZT is a reverse transcriptase inhibitor that I mentioned to tiggyfiggy.

As far as I know its not breaking any DNA helix backbones and the only thing that I know that does is ionizing radiation.

Can you explain to me what a DNA chain destroyer is exactly? Can you tell me HOW it does it? There is a reason that radiation is a serious threat...those folks don't live very long because it's really serious. Now explain to me why AIDs patients now lead much longer lives?

So did you have fun uneducating yourself watching a pretty movie?

Does it involve injecting $180,000 of concentrated cash into your veins?

  @pboxter

do you ever read primary articles on drug research? do you ever read research on HIV structure analysis? do you ever read research on vaccine clinical trials? If you ever decide to educate yourself and actually read some research journals you will see how much effort is poured into finding a cure. has it ever occured to you that maybe the reason there isn't a cure for HIV is because it is a difficult disease to treat? Every virion that is prodeuced from an infected cell is genetically distinct. HIV is an RNA virus which is inherently prone to error. By the time a person has been infected for about 10 years they have well over a million different genotypes of HIV. Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps a disease that eliminates all of the CD4 T cells *MIGHT* be a difficult disease to treat? I get so sick of conspiracy theories surrounding drug companies etc. People bitch about the money they make but guess what, if I decide to develop a new drug, it will take 10-15 years of research to make it, and if the drug fails at any of the trial checkpoints I am out the millions of dollars I invested. When they start making a drug they won't know for at least 20 years whether a profit will bew made or not. It is high RISK high REWARD if you don't like it then don't subscribe to capitalism.

your missing the big picture.
drug companies dont give a crap about you as long as ur buying their medicine.
just the fact that insurance companies in the states refuse to provide funds for chemo therapy but approve assisted suicide says it all.

  by: itts   12/15/2008 05:37 PM
  @iits

No, I'm afraid that YOU don't get it. We're not paying pharmacy companies to care, we're paying them for the hours of man power to develop a drug that will make your life easier or longer. That my friend is capitalism. You pay someone else to do something that you yourself cannot....otherwise if you insist that they "care" you are also insisting that they work for free to make a drug that will never return the time they dedicated to it.

Like RyanB said...if you don't like it don't subscribe to capitalism..or medicine for that matter.

  by: luc1ddr3am     12/15/2008 05:55 PM
  and by the way

why would be research antibiotics and antivirals? the one positive thing about HIV was the boom in antiviral research. before HIV it was accepted that nothing can be done about HIV infections. But then people began to look at differences between viruses and humans and found targets for treatment. You think that coming up with medicine is just some random process people can just wake up and make? How about years of trying to elucidate the structure of the pathogen? determine conserved sequences across all sero/biotypes? find targets that WON'T cross react with human tissues and create a vaccine that develops autoimmunity? ever think of anything like that? I doubt most people who cry about drug companies have ever thought about that. There is a lot of time and effort that goes into making drugs.

  by: RyanB     12/15/2008 10:24 PM
  @isuzu; Dayron

isuzu: One example is Wicca, but it is certainly not the only religion like that.

Dayron: I disagree, "God" does not cover the realm of every faith. When someone says "God bless" they do it with the understanding that they are speaking of the judeo-christian "God". What about people who don't believe in a "God" or don't refer to it as "God" or whom have no "God" but instead "Gods" or whos faith is inward focused? "God bless" is a statement that should be deprecated from our society as it ignorantly assumes that the person the statement is bestowed upon is of the same faith. We should never ASSume things like that, for obvious reasons.
