Bush Awards a Presidential Citizens Medal to Convicted Felon Chuck Colson
The man who masterminded the Watergate break in for Nixon, planned the bombing of the Brookings Institute, and convicted of trial-tampering of anti-war protester and ex-marine, Daniel Ellsberg, is one of 32 chosen to receive the highest civilian medal.
"The Presidential Citizens Medal was established to recognize U.S. citizens exemplary deeds," said the White House. They also said, "Colson has dedicated his life to sharing the message of God's boundless love and mercy" with prisoners.
Time Magazine said Colson "allegedly ordered E. Howard Hunt to fabricate a telegram implicating President Kennedy in the assassination of South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem." Said an underling, "Chuck always had to stuff the ballot box."
hmmm, an award for someone far worse than people bush's/the neocon following would call terrorists, and further more the bombing was only a cover-up to steal politically sensitive information at the time the fire-fighter were puttign the fire out, or at least that was his proposal.
this douchebag was far from exemplary, its no surprise that one of the world's worst douchebags would give a turd from the nixon era a medal for exemparly deed... like bush (and for that matter nixon) himself, chuck colson is the scum of the earth.
Hmm, sounds like a whole bunch'o'terrorism go'n on there connected to the RNC.
Palling around with terrorists bad? How about giving them medals? How does that rank? Say it with me far right, real sloooow as not to forget: H-Y-P-oooooo-C-R-I-S-Y
Far Left and Far right camps alike, seem to have natural immunity to effects of reality. Step #1: Turn off Limbaugh & Bill-O-Reilly, about as useful as a Jerry Springer.
...but after living eight years under this despot, I'm no longer surprised by anything he does. Awarding a domestic terrorist the highest civilian medal, what's next, recommending Blackwater for a Nobel Prize?
Maybe these medals have tiny little gps tracking chips implanted in them and enough c4 to blow a chunk out the person wearing them. If that was the case then I can see giving this man one of them. However as I doubt that is what they are for. I for one am proud to claim to be a Canadian when I go outside of the USA.
This is just another example of Bush/Cheney glorifying Nixon. Cheney has tried every way he can to bring the Cold War back and exonerate his former lord and master, Richard Nixon. The Watergate crooks are heroes to Bush & Cheney.
The White House advocates "spreading God's bouncless love and mercy"? If the article had attributed that quote to Iran nobody would have batted an eyelid.
I wonder if Obama will bring the US out of the stone age.
Speaking of which, New Zealand (my country) is now 51% atheist! Sweet huh.
Just wanted to say your wikipedia link points to the wrong guy. I'm sure you meant to post this one http://en.wikipedia.org/... I had to go back and forth to make sure I was reading about the same guy. Then realized I was not :D
Colson is the apogee of a scummy political operative. Now all the people opposing his form of suppressionist based religion are terrorists. Read the last 4 paragraphs of the buzzflash story.
(in case actually reading about someone is less appealing than throwing stones"... " Colson has received fifteen honorary doctorates and in 1993 was awarded the Templeton Prize, the world's largest cash gift (over $1 million), which is given each year to the one person in the world who has done the most to advance the cause of religion. He donated this prize, as he does all speaking fees and royalties, to further the work of Prison Fellowship."
"I'm sure this guy has regrets (as we all do) but contrary to the image portrayed in the summary and comments, this guy has actually done some good."
and what good has this scum done...
have you read that link you used?
turning from criminals to born again prison case DOES NOT EVER make a person "good" or imply they done "some good".
this SCUM has been molly coddled in the prison system and in society through the prison system ESPECIALLY the religious community by the bush family via geroge bush jr and jeb.
becomming ultra religious NEVER in and of itself make a person good, no matter how much you share the beleifs he now preaches.
infact even most of thsi pro-religious stuff is negative or just plain ignorant:
Colson has opposed same-sex marriage
argued that Darwinism is used to attack Christianity
and claimed that the Enron accounting scandals were a consequence of secularism
He has also argued against Darwinism and in favor of intelligent design,
saying Darwinism helped cause forced sterilizations by eugenicists.
Colson has been an outspoken critic of postmodernism, believing that, as a cultural worldview, it is incompatible with the Christian tradition. (is for going back to more theocratic ruling and society)
The speech was titled "The Problem of Ethics," where he argued that a society without a foundation of moral absolutes cannot long survive.
In 1993 Colson was awarded the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion, the world's largest cash gift (over $1 million), which is given each year to the one person in the world who has done the most to advance the cause of religion. (yay for advancing archiac superstition; moving backward is SOO great...lol)
In 2000, Florida Governor Jeb Bush reinstated the rights taken away by Colson's felony conviction, including the right to vote. (effectively giving him voting rights while thousands even in this election were denied their voting rights (my ex-fiance was one of these people).
nothing about this person that i've read is good... scummy, yes... religious (christian), yes... good, not a chance.
lets not mindlessly associate religious (christian) with good regardless of person beleif on religion.
"this SCUM has been molly coddled in the prison system and in society through the prison system ESPECIALLY the religious community *AND* by the bush family via geroge bush jr and jeb."
"funny ...like I'd gauge someone's "goodness" based on anything put forth buy someone with a username of "Havoc666"
lol... again proving my point.
see how irrational religion has made your judgement just concerning my username alone, let alone your defence of a scumbag because of religious work he's done since imprisonment... he's scum, there is no next chapter in the book of his life which will ever revoke, negate, or counter this.
and agian MOST of his religious work is ignorant even for religion or outright negative or anything nont preceived as pro-christian.... even on the religious level this person is not a "good" or enlightened man.
FYI... the 666 in my name is pun against relgious superstition and in general their followers... in general from religious people have has similar reactions of mindless defending pro religious peiople of their following and mindless attacking peopl;e who obviously aren't, namely in a vain attempt to discredit their (my) point.
I'm quite used to Havoc obviously missing my points (most of the time) if anyone 'else' doesn't see how his dismantling of my post misrepresents my initial line of logic....feel free to pm me.
Looks like I'll just keep a notepad with this on standby.
@Starshadow, Havoc and I have discussed issues here for quite a while, for me to all of a sudden use his name as a serious basis for logical discussion is not my character.....it was a joke.
I'm WELL aware of how much Havoc disagrees with organized religion. Feel free to look through our previous discussion when you have the time.
My initial sentiments were to widen the breadth of information for 'anyone' who's never heard of him and simply jumped on the 'Bush is so horrible' bandwagon.
