Teacher Jailed for Fatally Punching 11-Year-Old in Stomach for Not Doing Maths Homework

Egypt: 23-year-old Haitham Nabeel Abdelhamid has been given a 6 year prison sentence for manslaughter after he fatally punched an 11-year-old student who didn't do his math homework. The boy suffered 4 broken ribs and died of heart failure.

"The problem is the teaching and the teachers because they cannot find good teachers. The minister of education should be the first person to be accused - how can he agree to let such a young man teach children?" said the child's father.

Abdelhamid's lawyer said that his client was disciplining the student and did not break the law as striking a student is not banned. The government claims to be working on reforms to education where inexperienced teachers have classes of up to 100.

  He

should have been given detention with the boys family and have to do 100 punches, to himself from them, then sentenced. What a tool, put in the position of such trust. If they can't find the teachers and they know they can't, maybe they should have cameras in the classes or just cancel them and give the kids comps and teach them via the net.

What does youth have to do with it?

I know plenty of fine young teachers, and every older teacher was young at some point as well. Wonder why education is going down the tubes? Smart arsed parents think they know how to teach their kids better than the people getting paid to do so.

  what an outrage

A mere six years for punching an 11 yr. old with crushing force. Clearly this went far beyond corporal punishment, the man hit him with all he had, in order to result in multiple broken ribs. I hope Egyptian prisoners feel the same way about child abusers that American prisoners do.

A lot of incidents go unreported.

A classmate of mine - many moons ago - was lifted up and thrown across the room by the teacher.

I can't remember the infraction - but three decades on, the memory of him narrowly missing the strip lighting was awesome.

I guess he laughs about it now, but we always thought the teacher was dick.

  When i was in school

one of our physics teachers nearly electrocuted a girl after he did connect her to a transformer. He made another girl drink phosphor. One time he did rip all his hair out in front of the class and there was blood all over his head. He was later diagnosed with mental illness and now lives in the clinic.

  Systemic problems

The system permits the beating of kids in class. And turns an eye to the beatings of women (the mothers) at home as per a cultural interpretation of islamic sharia.

The system also allows teachers, experienced or not, to have classes of 50-100 students.

6yrs is too much punishment for this spacegoat. One year, some counceling and a firing should be enough.
