With the full backing of the authorities, women in Naples have vowed to stop their men having a bit of ‘how's your Father’ if they set off fireworks. And the powers have sent out text messages to men saying "make love, not explosions".
“If a sex strike is what it takes in order to get the attention of our men, husbands, partners and sons, then we're ready for it, take action and make him sleep on the sofa," Mrs Staiano, 44, told Italy's Ansa news agency.
The campaign, which originally began in the town of Lettere approximately 25 miles from Naples, drew its inspiration form a Greek play ‘Lysistrata’. In the play, men are refused sex if they do not stop fighting with Spartans.
