Danny Platt, who originally told police that three men with dreadlocks and sporting AK-47 rifles had kidnapped his two and a half year-old son Ja'Shawn Powell, has confessed that he is in fact the killer and told police where to find the boy's body.
Police Superintendent Warren Riley said that Platt's story had never added up, adding that "he was a suspect from the very beginning." Riley said that Platt told police that he would either kill his wife or his child rather than pay child support.
Platt had no prior contact with the boy before picking him up on Friday, despite having visitation rights. Riley asked how anyone could "do this hideous act to his own child, or to any child, and think that it is a remedy to paying child support?"
