14-Year-Old Boy Successfully Fools Police, Patrols on the Beat for Five Hours

A 14-year-old boy has caused embarrassment to the Chicago Police Department after he put on a faux police uniform, posed as a police officer, and was put on patrol for five hours before anyone noticed.

Police officials announced an investigation into what they described as a serious breach of security. The boy, who aspires to be a police officer, did not issue any tickets or drive the squad car. He has been charged with impersonating an officer.

He was eventually discovered when someone noticed his uniform lacked one of the stars featured on a regulation police uniform. He had been part of a programme designed to promote policing among youth, which meant he had some formal knowledge.

  Haha

Sounds like this guy would have been an improvement to the force there. They should of just hired him instead of charging him. So much for this kids dream of becoming an officer of the law.

I wonder what his possible punishment would be, maybe a long day of traffic control at a busy intersection.

  Charged him?

No harm no foul. It's clear his motive was not to harass, offend, or harm anyone. He, for some really obscure reason, wanted to actually be a cop. Take the embarrassment in stride and keep the kid in mind 4 years from now.

  Wanted to be a cop

as a kid, but I could never enforce the ridiculous drug laws the US has. Oh well, I'm sure some corrupt asshole took my place.

  Screwed

That kid is now screwed. If he's convicted, he will never be allowed to be a cop. Why they charged him is just a mystery. Probably just wanted to do something to offset the embarassment of the situation. But that kid better start thinking of a different career.

  He's not screwed.

Once you're 18 your record prior doesn't matter.

  Wow

So for 5 hours actual police officers couldn't tell that he wasn't a cop and yet we are supposed to realize a group of guys breaking down your door in the middle of the night was a bunch of cops. Just wow.

  He will be fine

Yeah being only 14, he is fine. He could still be a cop no problems if he manages to not do anything else stupid as an adult.

  is it

Is it just in the states that if you are convicted of a crime you cannot be a police officer?
^Is this even true?

In Canada you can have a record and still become a cop...

  21 Jump Street anyone

It is a shame that dedication like this 14 year-old has is not being rewarded. After all in the 80's L.A. had a group of officers that went undercover into High School's to help curtail drug and violence issues. It was such a success that T.V. show was based on the idea.
Where would Johnny Depp be today without this role. Who knows what good this 14 year-old could do with the proper training, guidance and a few more years under his belt.
He did go about it the wrong way, but it doesn't mean the City of Chicago should Jump him for it.
