Australia: Ivan Milat, a serial killer serving multiple life sentences, is in hospital after he amputated the little finger on his left hand and attempted to mail it to the High Court. It not known what Milat wanted the court to do with the finger.
Milat has a history of self injury (SN reported) which includes swallowing staples and razor blades and slamming his hand in a door in an apparent attempt to get to a hospital where it would be easier to escape.
Ron Woodham, the NSW Commissioner for Corrective Services, stressed that Milat would die in prison regardless of what he did, adding that "he probably couldn't count to 10 anyway before the incident."
