In a latest concentrated effort on the problems of absent fathers and mothers who refuses to pay child maintenance, the government is putting forward a new bill which will go before UK Parliament.
The Welfare Reform Bill will give the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission powers to demand parents instantly hand over personal documents such as driving licences and passports until their financial responsibilities are met.
Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell said: "We are supporting parents in these tough times, but for those who choose not to support their own kids, we will not stand by and do nothing. We want fair rules for everybody.”
