Australia: Upon returning home from lunch recently South Gundagai resident Tony Barton observed a 165cm red belly black snake eating a 135cm brown snake. Both species are poisonous and black snakes often eat other species of snake.
After completely consuming the smaller snake the black snake sluggishly slithered away only to return to Barton's back yard a short time later. Barton, who had photographed the snake's earlier meal, again went out to take more pictures.
The mouth of the black snake opened and the brown snake appeared head first, having apparently turned around inside. It clamped down on the black snake's lower jaw and pulled it mucus-covered body out. Both snakes departed the scene shortly after.
