Hamas Accused of Killing Dissidents

Osama Atallah, a Palestinian teacher in Gaza, Fatah member, and outspoken critic of Hamas, was arrested by masked gunmen claiming to be part of the Hamas internal security.

The masked gunmen told Osama's family that he would be released within a few hours. Instead, the family received a call from the hospital that Osama was in critical condition. He died shortly after.

Fatah claims that the arrest came "because of his public and continued criticism of the performance of the Hamas militias in Gaza."

Thanks for the advice. I finally decided to post a story on SN. My intent is to prove that both sides have flaws including Hamas.

  Hamas was orginally
supposed to just stop Israeli aggression and terror. Now they are committing terrorism against their own people...

Here is a good suggestion: Put UN peacekeepers into all the occupied territories and expel all Israeli troops from all areas of the Palestinian side of the 1967 borders.

This way the Palestinians get what they want as well as stops the terror groups in Palestine committing these crimes.

Maybe not totally stop it all but at least it would drastically reduce their occurrences.

It's just me, but I see a world of difference between 'accused' (per the source) and 'actively killing' (per the summary).

I should of changed the headlines to:

Hamas is accused of killing dissidents by palestinians

  by: NG   01/29/2009 07:27 PM
  Title is misleading
It implies Hamas are routinely killing dissident, while they are only being accused of killing this guy. I'll grant you that they are still guilty of a lot crime against civilians, but you won't persuade anyone if you use bias in your summaries.

"Hamas was orginally supposed to just stop Israeli aggression and terror. Now they are committing terrorism against their own people..."

I object to the use of the word 'originally. Prior to the israeli recent policing activities in gaza, hamas had originally killed a lot more palestinian civilians and politicians, of their own people, then israel managed to accomplish recently.

Actually you are totally wrong about that. It was not until 1992 (some 5 years after its creation) that Hamas changed violent and started launching suicide attacks. The firsts was in 1993. However they were founded in 1987.

In fact Hamas was created with Israeli help to offset the power of Fatah. Its basically one big endless circle of death...

I was however referring to Hamas's original creation. IE early 90's and late 80's.

  @ slavefortheman
the idea of installing UN peacekeepers was suggested by Arafat a long time ago was rejected by Israel

Hamas and Fatah have been prevented from settling differences by the US and Israel which has stoked conflict between them ...

not me saying that but Jimmy Carter , I suppose if that throws a spanner in your argument you can just call Carter a pinko liberal or something like that and pretend he doesn't know what hes talking about

So does it count as genocide when they start killing their own people?

That will keep you thinking for a long time. Are they right-wing because they are genocidal, or left-wing because they are the victms of of genocide?

Or are they both, and thus mentally unwell, and so they should be institutionalized as population (this gets my vote, I'll even put up money for it!) because they are incapable of looking after their own interests?

Someone answer, I want to hear a lefty tell the tale of how to class these saints in Gaza.
