Turkish PM Walks Out In Gaza Debate

Following a heated verbal exchange on Gaza with Israel's president, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan marched off the stage at a World Economic Forum in Davos.

The Turkish PM explained later that his storming off the stage was not in protest at his debate with Shimon Peres but because he was allocated less time to speak than his Israeli counterpart.

The moderator of the debate a Washington Post columnist granted Recep Tayyip Erdogan a minute to reply and proceeded to ask him to hurry up in his answering as people needed to go to dinner.

ASSESS this news: BLOCK this news. Reason:
I guess it's more important for people to go eat than a debate between top country officials.

Makes sense to me :-(

Normaly this wouldnt be the case, but because the officials are from the mid east it was acceptable.
Per the Israli president:
"The debate is only a formality. Everyone knows the real way solve your problems is to strap on a vest and march into a diner"

I once got banned from this site for making that same comment

  You cant Say Jew?
JEW JEW JEW.... Joke :) ....Everybody should be given equal opportunity to make an argument. I thought Rangi was just kidding, i wikied and the moderator David Ignatius is a Jew. Now i am not trying to be racist but when you have a international forum around the same time that one of the participants massacres 1000 people it's probably a good idea not to use a person that may have a bias pertaining to that particular situation as the moderator of debates.

  vested interests.
whats the point of having a speaker who skews the debate with his personal feelings.

its not a debate when you allocate 10 mins to one side an a minute to the other.

I guess zionists dont want anyone other than themselves to be heard.. goes along with their motto i guess "never again". I wont use the J word, the majority are good people who want this all over with as much as the Palis.

he was right to walk out...
they wouldn't let him speak...

actions speak louder than words...

HAHAHAHAHA... Classic.
  by: jendres     01/30/2009 03:42 AM
  An entire minute!
Erdogan probably only planned to have 30 seconds, then rushed to make the lunch cue, the mod is from the post after all...
  by: lachs     01/30/2009 05:15 AM
The moderator did it in the best interests of the guests attending the event. Listening to a Turk bloviate would have made everyone lose their appetites.

  @Big Bird
How does silencing people fit into your support for democracy? Assuming you're all for democracy that is .
