On January 29, a female student at Vermillion High School showed up to class armed with a kitchen knife in her backpack. She asked to be excused from class, in which she went to the washroom, cut open, and painted her face resembling "The Joker".
The student then returned to class, knife in hand, and tried stabbing the teacher. The teacher was able to keep her distance from the student using a push cart, and the student was eventually calmed down and taken into custody.
No details on the motive was released.
