AIDS Gel Shows Promise in Early Tests

South African Scientists yesterday said that an early study involving an experimental vaginal gel has shown promise in preventing the person using the gel being infected with AIDS. Results are not conclusive, but they do offer hope.

Salim Abdool Kraim, one of the scientists presenting the findings, said: "This is the first study that now shows we have a promising candidate." The study involved approximately 3,100 women and was mainly designed to test the safety of the gel.

Control groups included two which used different kinds of gel, and one with a placebo and one with no gel at all. All women involved were told to make their partners use condoms. Women across Africa and in the US took part.

  I would

think by now, result would have been conclusive, since this Gel has been around for few years now being tested.

  is it that hard?

to sleep with people you know using protection?

to not fight other people for any reason?

to not want much more then you need?

to want to help another human being?

to share?

We are our own obstacle towards evolving to something so much greater. most of the solutions to these problems you could find the answer to by sitting in during a elementary school class.

  Help..

I'm a bit lost. So for the test subjects with the women with gel, did the researchers tell the subjects to hit it to see whether or not they would catch AIDS?

Success- no AIDS
Failure- AIDS

I'm sorry sir, the test gel proved to be a failure in your case. You now have AIDS. Sign here, here, and... here. Thanks and have a good day.

How exactly did they test this? Maybe I'm just missing/over-reading something.

  LOL

When I first read it I thought the same thing COG. I thought it was like "Ohhhh... sorry. You got the placebo. Hope you had fun though!"

But I think the actual test was conducted to determine if the gel is "safe", not necessarily effective. Meaning that when you apply the gel that you don't break out in hives or your insides don't melt.

Not sure thats a lot better. "Oh looks like this version causes a big nasty rash. Sign here and no touchy for 6 months or the rash could spread."

  Also...

Is this supposed to be a alternative to condoms or an additive?

  @coteyr

"Is this supposed to be a alternative to condoms or an additive?"

I hope not. If its anything like other gel-like substances, it won't last, and eventually will wear off. Dry up. Your junk as rough as the coarse sands of the desert. As rugged as a grizzled, shotgun-wielding Mountaineer. Sundried as tomatoes. Scorched as the Sahara. Like the parched mouth of an Arizona farmer. It's like Mercury down there. The planet. It's like going to the beach, but instead of the beach, you went to bed with some gel. And that gel dried up. And now you're at the beach. But not. You know your basketball teams? HOW ABOUT "THE HEAT"? UGH!

Okay, I'm done.
