New List Shows Top Ten Most Miserable Cities in America

In a new Forbes story, they show the top 10 worst cities in the U.S. starting with the worst: Stockton, CA, Memphis, TN, Chicago, IL, Cleveland, OH, Modesto, CA, Flint, MI, Detroit, MI, Buffalo, NY, Miami, FL, and St. Louis, MO.

It all started with Stockton and the housing boom, with prices tripling from '98 to '05, and a bust along with a 13.3% unemployment rate. Chicago ranks high even with an Obama presidential win, with high unemployment of 6.6%, and a high 10.3% sales tax.

Chicago's corruption problem is staggering, with 385 convicted public officials over the past 10 years. Out of the last 9 governors, 5 have been charged with crimes - include this with the highest tax rate in the country Chicago, is quickly climbing.

I'm not American. I don't give two flying s#!ts about Obama, Bush, etc.

Now having said that, you've got issues. Take that frown and turn it upside down. You only torment yourself with that Obama complex.

lmao, wow, you're such a moron. Obama has only been in office for less than a month and you expect anything to take full effect yet? lol, everyone is still feeling the downward spiral caused by Bush.

Obama came here to Indiana yesterday because of a town, I think Elkhart, Indiana that has a 15% unemployment rate. At least he's going to places whom are having hard times quicker than Bush ever did. Obama actually cares, Bush cared about money.

I understand that taxes are necessary but seriously who would enjoy paying taxes.

I don't like taxes.

Cray0la however lives in mortal fear of them.

people don't seem to happy here when they aren't wasted off their ass.

Obama came from Chicago you idiot !

The reason Chicago is the way it is today has alot to do with it.

My above post has nothing to do with him being president, it has to do with his policy and voting record in Chicago having to to with the current economic crisis in Chicago today.

  by: cray0la     02/10/2009 07:09 PM
  Shows alot about Obama voters

Not knowing where Obama came from, what party controlled congress and so on.

Hey, what's up with all the capital letters in your summary?

e.g. Public Officials, Obama Presidency Win, High Unemployment'

... really annoying.

I don't need to have voted, to find you offensive, or obnoxious-- to other users, or myself. Sundown may have had it coming but way to follow suit.

IMO both sides need to stop taking cheap shots at each other that involve simple 1st degree thinking... Obama Raises taxes, McCain lies about driving american.. blah blah blah. If politics were only as easy as looking at the surface of the matter!

  by: luc1ddr3am     02/10/2009 07:30 PM
Iv'e been to every one of thoes cities.

and Miami should be rated a lot higher.

I think Cray0la's just really got a huge crush on Michelle Obama. That's why he's really angry.

Oakland is worse than Buffalo in my opinion... but hey, its not my list.

Why do you hate our president so much? I guess you hate the American people, who voted for him, as well. I just hope that you're not too crazed with hatred to kill somebody.

Thought you might be interested to know, Forbes also did a list of the worst states to do business in, and there's some bad news. The second-worst state is Louisiana, where your hero Piyush Jindal is the governor, and the third-worst state is Alaska, where your hero Sarah Palin is the governor.

Read it and weep: http://www.forbes.com/...

  Buffalo may be miserable

But a recent study shows that they've made the best progress in air quality, adding 10 months of misery to your life. http://health.yahoo.com/...

Are you from Chicago? I am. The rate of sales tax and property taxes have little to do with Obama. The Chicago (aka Cook County) sales tax is voted on by the Cook County Board, Presided by Todd Stroger, it has nothing to do with the state Senate or Obama. If you want to look at the the corruption of Chicago politics, look to its current mayor, Mayor Daley, look to the Cook County Board President Todd Stroger. Don't point the finger at Obama who has only a state location affiliation with either of them. If I ran for state senate, US Senator, or President...my mere residence (Chicago) and profession (politics) would not mean that I am a corrupt person just by those facts.

Name me a place that doesn't have high unemployment right now too...even then, Obama has nothing to do with it. He's hasn't even been in office a month and this economy can't be remedied in a few short weeks. It took years and years to get here and it will take years and years to get back. Seems to me that those who oppose Obama have more of a "God" expectation of him than those who voted for him.

I take issue with Memphis being that high on this asinine list. Memphis is a great city in my home state of Tennessee.

I didn't get that either. I like Memphis.

"Seems to me that those who oppose Obama have more of a 'God' expectation of him than those who voted for him."

It really looks that way, doesn't it? I think that's the line they were sold to make McCain seem like more of a realist. Now they want to capitalize off the idea that people expected a "messiah" and seem baffled when they can't find anyone who did.

Thanks -- apparently I can be a complicated communicator : )

And Hellblazer, just for the record, I supported Bush until we learned that nothing he said about Iraq was true. I was a Democrat that whole time, too.

Actually it has that is why I wrote it.
A useless remark generates a useless reply.
I realize you have to come to Ben's rescue but I think he may need a better hero.

Has anyone given any thought to

the fact that this list is generated by Forbes magazine, who aren't exactly going to be all warm and fuzzy toward Democrats? They're just finding statistics that will fit their political views and publishing a list to tar the guy (and party) they don't like. Remember the 3 kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Watch him. "It's only been a week. Two weeks. A month. 2 years. 4 years. 8 years. He's only appointed himself People's President for Life..." and only, ever never ever delivered on his promises he so eloquently expressed in his campaigning.

"Wait and see" was the plea of the Bush apologistas as well, lest you forget, you hapless ninnies I call my countrymen. Look at what happened. Instead of parades we got some lunatic throwing his shoe at the President. This administration will similarly falter, except it might admit of its inadequacies, which albeit refreshing is still no substitute for real leadership and change.

Pity McCain wasn't up to the job. He lost the backing of his most important supporter too often; himself, to make it.

Stockton reminds me of a part of that movie High School High. You get out of your car, start walking to where you're going, realize you forgot something in your car, turn around and it's gone. I've known so many people who have gotten their cars stolen there, right under their nose, in like 5 minutes.

You know why our air quality is constantly improving? All of our factories have shut down, lol. We don't produce anything here anymore.

@ Everyone
Can't Democrats now use the same line that Republicans have been using for the past 8 years? "If you don't agree with the President, you are anti-American" Maybe Obama should also wire tap to weed out the infidels.

I lol at hardcore Republicans every day.

  by: smarta$$     02/13/2009 05:56 PM
  I live in Stockton

Obama's never been round these parts. Also I lost $25,000 in the housing collapse, and my truck's been stolen once and broken into and robbed 3 times in the last couple years. Also I'm unemployed. Take that America.

p.s. none of that stimulus money is coming this way.
