In a recent study it was found that roughly 40% of men are depressed by the financial crisis. It was found that more 'male-friendly' drepression treatments are needed, as well as advertising campaigns about seeking help.
Men and women experience mental health issues in roughly equal numbers, but men rarely seek or receive treatment. Men are also less likely to talk to friends, family, or professionals, but more likely to have suicidal thoughts than women.
Paul Farmer, cheif executive of Mind, which was responsible for the survey said, "Being a breadwinner is something that is still crucial to the male psyche so if a man loses his job he loses a large part of his identity..." 2000 adults participated.
