Martina Navratilova: Grunting in Tennis is Cheating, It Should Be Banned
Martina Navratilova, winner of 18 tennis grand slams, has called for grunting in tennis to be banned, saying that players who do it are cheats. Top female players Sharapova and Serena Williams are among a number of 'grunters' in the game.
Navratilova says that the grunters are trying to mask the sound made by racket hitting ball. A skilled player can determine to some extent how well the ball was struck and if it has spin on it from that sound.
"Roger Federer doesn't make a noise when he hits the ball - go and listen. The grunting has reached an unacceptable level. It is cheating, pure and simple. It is time for something to be done," said Navratilova.
somebody has to make a sound, otherwise the crowd would fall asleep.

Yeah. Did anyone watch women's fencing during the 2008 olypmics? No? Well, anyway, it was confusing as hell, impossible to tell who did what, and they had some loud, really annoying screaming too. Maybe it's a women's thing.
I dunno. She's won three grand slams in mixed doubles this decade (most recent 2006 US Open) and made the final in another two. I would say she was still pretty competitive up until she retired.
Can anyone name another athlete in a physical sport who has remained this high in international competition at this age?
You guys have got it all wrong. Miss Navaratilova is a Butch Lesbian. So , think about it. The grunting would most likely turn her on and put her off. So to speak....!!
