Canadian Mother Wrestles Cougar Off Her Daughter Barehanded

Canadian mother Maureen Lee has fought off a cougar that leapt onto her daughter during a walk in the woods with her bare hands. Seeing her child pinned she dove between the two and threw the large cat off before scooping up her child and running.

Her three-year-old daughter, who thought the animal just wanted to play, is recovering nicely from puncture wounds on her head and arm. The cougar fared less well - conservation officers located it and killed it.

 Nothing is sexier than a cougar wrestling a cougar.

  Way to go Maureen
 Everyone gets a chance to prove who they are at least once in their lives. I'd be driving people nuts bragging about it for years if it were me.

"Hi. My names Vig. Ya know I once fought off a puma to save my little girl..."

  Amazing the strength
 a parent finds when their child is in danger. A happy outcome!

  ...
 There was a similar case that also happened here several years ago. I think it was reported on this site, or perhaps it was the local paper. (London Free Press)

Anyways, in that case the mother wasn't so lucky and was killed by the mountain lion.

  THATS awesome
 i didnt think anyone could wrestle with a cougar there massive but there has been stories about cougars helping people. to bad for it thought it wasn't its fault i find it terrible how they can kill this cougar for obeying a natural instinct to feed.

  And the cougar gets killed
 Because mom and daughter go walking in the woods. She gets away, yet they still kill the cougar. incidents such as this are bound to happen so long as humans continue to encroach on animal habitats. I for one am pissed off, the entire world as whole is starving due to overpopulation. Yet we have lists of endangered animals. Humans are far from endangered. Not too mention the kid will be fine. the whole of the world is always boohoo " save the children", "ohh but my kids this" and "my kids that". I for one am sick of the "for the kids" mentality, especially when a gorgeous animal gets killed. If I ever were attacked by an animal, would simply get help and demand the animal be left alone. Cowardly response. Are we gonna kill every animal that acts aggressively when encountered in THEIR home?

  @everyone
 @bb LOL you beat me to it.
@the cougar- sucka.

@local authorities - how do you know you got the right one? there are thousands..

@the dog - WHERE WERE YOU?! WHY DIDNT YOU HELP? - you should join the cougar.

@the trail - WHY WERENT ANY SIGNS POSTED?!

@the mother - why didnt you take a rifle if you know wild cougars are in the area?

@anti-gun advocates- YOU SEee!? YOU SEE WHY WE NEED GUNS?

@the girl - Now you know why you dont bother animals who dont want to play with you.

 "how do you know you got the right one? there are thousands"
Pumas are territorial and solitary. The only time two are within the same range is if they are breeding.

"WHY WERENT ANY SIGNS POSTED?!"
I used to go outside a lot as a child. Never saw any signs for water moccasins, copperheads, alligators or pumas. Even though they were out there.

"why didnt you take a rifle if you know wild cougars are in the area"
Because cougar attacks are extremely rare and apparently she didn't need one anyway.

"Now you know why you dont bother animals who dont want to play with you"
She didn't bother it. It pounced her.

...as for the dog. Yeah, useless mutt.

 by: VermiciousG     06/25/2009 02:28 PM
  Well
 if cougars are territorial, then they antagonized it simply by following a trail that should not have been there

@BC why do you make trails that encroach on dangerous wild animals habitats? have you not developped enough land already? are cities too crowded and what not? do oyu want to enjoy nature? well the animals sure as hell want to enjoy nature, they see people cocming, with thier steel and iron- laws and statutes, hell i'd want to kiill the children too if i was the cougar, that childs going to need a house one day and they're only gooing to take more land away from the cougar.

poor kitty

imma fnid wild animals and sharpen their claws and teeth, i'll call it a preservvation campaign of sorts, to help the animals protect themselves.

seriously, we choose where we want to live a long timei ago when we built cities instead of forrests, the animals have the forrsts, we have the cities. if a cougar was in a city, shoot on sight for sure.

but when you go to ITS HOUSE dont expect compassion- just as you wouuld treat an intruder in your home, the cougar will treat you.

with violence. and the home owner is usually in the right when it comes to a break and enter.. so why are the humans always the victims?

imi just saying, it shouldnt be treated as being 'unexpected' for wild animals to attack people.

get used to the cities and gtfo of the woods if the wolf wants you cookies for grandma

and most of all we shouldnt go and find the animals sonly to murder them

 and if the animals attack humans out of a dessperate attempt to find a meal, insstead of shooting them why not FEED THEM? a hungry cat doesnt need to hunt to eat.
 by: thedeeder   06/25/2009 05:26 PM
  @thedeeder
 "@anti-gun advocates- YOU SEee!? YOU SEE WHY WE NEED GUNS"

actually this story proves why we DON'T need guns... or at least why a canadian mother didn't.

 by: HAVOC666     06/25/2009 05:44 PM
  @thedeeder
 Territorial among other pumas. The last thing they'd avoid or intentionally chase away is potential prey.

Also, You can't argue that we have no right to go into the countryside and claim that we need guns so that we can go to the countryside.
