The disputed election in Iran has been declared valid by the country's spiritual body, the Guardian Council. This means that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be sworn in as the country's leader next month.
According to state TV, the Guardian Council conducted a "meticulous and comprehensive examination" and found just "slight irregularities that are common to any election and needless of attention." Ahmadinejad won a 2:1 ratio of the vote.
Many, including main opposition candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, believe that with a record turnout for the ballot, this ratio is more than improbable. Since the election, Iranians have been taken to the streets in protest.
