Numerous investigations on the Catholic Church in Ireland yielded many cases of child abuse by the religious clergy from the 1930s into the 1990s. The justice minister went so far as to call the hidden abuses as "horrific acts of depravity."
One investigation, which covers the abuses by 46 priests, was ordered by the Dublin High Court judge. The report names hundreds of children that were abused and then claims that bishops would try to cover up the events.
Dublin courts have awarded 1 billion euros to 12,000 victims of church abuses.
Growing numbers of sex abuse reports seem to be taking their toll on church attendances in the Dublin area.
