The Israeli company Beeologics has developed a vaccine that may solve the disturbing problem of Colony Collapse Disorder, in which entire bee populations have been wiped out across the world.
The drug, known as "Remembee," apparently helps bees overcome the IAVP virus, which scientific literature has associated with CCD and has been discovered in hives in Israel. Beeologics' CTO says the drug enhances a feature of bees' immune systems.
"We are really using a naturally occurring phenomenon," said the CTO, Nitzan Paldi. "It's not a pesticide and it's not toxic," he said. The US Dept. of Agriculture and FDA are working to certify Remembee for use in the U.S.
