Rep. Murtha Says no to Healthcare Until January 2010

Today in Belgrade, Montana, President Obama pushed for his healthcare plan to a usually conservative Montana, saying we must extend coverage to the uninsured.

Later, Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) stated, "We're taking some time to make sure it's done right.

Murtha also said "I don't know that we'll get something done before January, and even then we may not get it done. We're going to do it right when it's finally done."

There has been a split among Democrats of whether this reform should be passed.

Murtha has told Speaker Pelosi, "Let's not rush this thing."

A voter in Montana has gone on the record and stated: "I believe that there is a health care crisis, I really do," "Do I believe that the government needs to be more involved? No!"

  hope this was ok

hope this was an ok summary. The lady couldnt fit her name in but it was Sonja McDonald voted for Obama and was the one quoted as saying
"I believe that there is a health care crisis, I really do," "Do I believe that the government needs to be more involved? No!"

This shows not just the so called unAmericans isn't the only one against this plan.

The way it looks this bill won't get passed hopefully something else will though

  My constructive criticism

"Today in Belgrade,Mo"

Montana would suffice, unless it was a major city.

"usually conservative Montana saying" should be

usually conservative Montana, saying

"Later Rep John Murtha (D-PA"

Later, Rep. John Murtha (D-PA)

Close quotation on second paragraph.

Combine second, third, and fifth paragraph into 2nd paragraph.

Combine fourth and last paragraph into 3rd paragraph.

Add punctuation to third and fifth paragraph.

Not trying to pick on you, but there's really high standards around here. People are not very lenient in rating when it comes to these types of things.

What do you mean by "un-Americans"?

Wait, I think I answered my own question. Was the Nancy Pelosi quote "Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American" what you were referring to?

I assume you disagree, and think that it's American to drown out someone who has different views than your own?

double take. Thanks I'm trying to get better.

Ben- Pelosi meant that to say everyone against the plan proposed is Un-American we both no that. DOn't take up for that woman IMO she is on the same level as Dick Cheney maybe not as bad but pretty close. I fear if anyhting happens to Obama and Biden.

I agree drowning out people is wrong but it's not un-american there is a big difference a matter of fact that is a fundemental of America in some parts of the world you do that and your dead or tortured. I guess you think we should do that huh?

The fact its counter productive though but I think America is fed up for the most part.

I do like how Obamas meeting have been going and I think thats only becuase he is the President and the respect issue is why. I might disagree with him but he is the only politician I respect. The Senate has done nothing to command any respect.

@Scrooge.

While i might not like the woman in any stretch of the imagination and like I said God forbid something happen to our President and Vice but thats the counter productive stuff most of us are talking about. Like I said I do feel she is on Cheneys level

I think a lot of conservatives, Republicans, Tea Party People, whatever you want to call them -- "anti-Democrats" -- have been twisting Pelosi's words. I'm not shocked.

It seems to me that she was saying that in America, we all get a voice, and for one faction to stifle the voice of another is un-American. But then, I'm not inclined to read evil intent into everything she says ...

Here's more context of her op-ed piece:

"However, it is now evident that an ugly campaign is underway not merely to misrepresent the health insurance reform legislation, but to disrupt public meetings and prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue. These tactics have included hanging in effigy one Democratic member of Congress in Maryland and protesters holding a sign displaying a tombstone with the name of another congressman in Texas, where protesters also shouted "Just say no!" drowning out those who wanted to hold a substantive discussion.

...

These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades."

wanna know why alot of Americans are scared of this plan. Read the news I just posted

  by: willyshawker     08/15/2009 06:56 AM
  @Ben

like I said its counter productive. The effigy was totally wrong. Personally I wouldnt disrupt the meetings like this but I can understand the frustration can't you.

We got so much on our plate and we want to add more. Lets start collecting the money other countries owe us to pay down our debt or even better lets use that money to pay for this. Lets stop giving our money to other countiies to help pay for it. Get what I'm saying. If you guys truly want this and say it will help America then tell our government to Help America First use the money we just give away for Americans for our health care option. Can you agree?

Just dont mess with China or they will totally bankrupt us lol.

Frankly, the economic issue is the only legitimate concern I see to the health care bill. We need to figure out how it will be paid for. I think we can do that.

If conservatives would just talk about stuff like that, rather than how Obama's death panels are going to kill old people, maybe we could get somewhere. But as Katie Couric said, when someone brings a loaded firearm to a town hall meeting that our president is attending, we're not having any kind of debate about health care.

Conservatives have the crazy dial up to like 14 right now. And it's only supposed to go to 10.

That's not the crazy dial, that's people learning from their mistakes. It's just that this time it won't take them 8 years to realize that they made one.

I agree bringing the gun was not needed and stupid, but to play devils advocate do we know he was going to harm anyone? Isn't it his right to carry the gun? Thats the devil advocates side but I tend to agree it was not needed.

Well you say your not worried about we need to find a way to pay for it. Well aren't they ways to help? Know what I'm saying. Who knows what else we pay for that isn't needed that could go to pay for this.

Another way to pay for it! Cut the pay of our public officials by 50 percent except the President ( he actually has to work) You cut the pay 50 percent thats roughly 75,000 per Senator to help pay for it, but you know they won't have that. If they really cared wouldnt they suggest that? Just saying!

Something Obama wants to do is stop substidising (sp) the private health care. I agree

All things we could do to help pay for it and won't do any of it. Cut out the bridge to no where for a road that dont exist or a turtle tunnel boom more money. Like I said who knows what else we pay for.

All the money is there right now we all know that but we won't make the government responsible for things like this.
