Man Attacked, Police Calling it Hate Crime

A man in Maryland is in serious condition after being beaten by three white men. A few hours before sunrise, an elderly black man and his wife where packing their car from a night of fishing when the three men attacked.

One man has been arrested, his name is Calvin Lockner. Police are calling this a hate crime because he told police he does not like African-Americans.

Lockner and his friends pummeled the victim with a bat while yelling racial slurs at him. They then stole the victim's vehicle and were tracked with the car's security system to Lockner's home. The other two subjects are still at large.

Anyway this happened at Ft Armistead Park which is in Baltimore City.

Crazy thing I was there last night crabbing and fishing left around 2 30AM and people where still there. I remember talking to an older black gentleman and his wife I'm presuming it was them this happened to.

Really sad, I sorta blame the state though becuase your not supposed to be there at night but they have light post there but don't put lights in them. Completly dark at night only light is the moon and little laterns people bring.

They had to be the last couple there becuase I find it hard to believe people would have just stood there and watched this

  Umm

No offense Willy but the Title is whacked.

It sounds like a Man attacked Police calling it a hate crime. It reads all messed up in my head.

Maybe Man attacked, Police calling it a hate crime. Or Police call attack on man a hate crime.

I thought a man attacked the police because they were of a hate crime.

Needs work...

I read it as "Man Attacked Police, Calling It A Hate Crime" when in actuality its "Man Attacked, Police Calling It A Hate Crime"

  Fortunately

the victim could get some kind of help from a security guard.

is sad, what is the point of hurting someone like that?

thing is not sure where the security guard came from they don't patrol the area of the park at all. Might have come from one of the business about 1/4 mile up the road.

This place when I was younger had porta potties and lights everywhere and even a security riding around and then they stopped all that becuase the teens where trashing everything.

Maybe they need to at least add the lights back. The poles are there all they need to do is put new light bulbs in.

They could gate it all up at night but w/no security people could cut the fence or open the gates to get their cars in the park.

I dont think the City will be liable becuase they do have plenty of signs that say park open from dusk till dawn, but they could also have done more

  Yes,

from your comment i can inagine it what is that area like.

Adding a comma between attacked and police would clear up the confusion.

On another note, I don't see why you would even assume the city might be to blame. Like you said, they were likely the only people there and I don't think a few security lights is going to stop three (probably drunken) racists from taking the opportunity they saw.

The reason I assume the city could be liable is. You know how lawyers are and if you get the right one he could say that if there where lights like it used to be it could have prevented the issue.

Would it have? Maybe. People tend not to commit crimes when it is a very lit area.It is very dark there and I mean very dark its hard to see your hand in front of your face.

Lights and maybe a camera or 2 would help prevent these types of things which while very rare need to be put to a stop

Well, I didn't read it in that context.. sorry. Of course lawyers could effectively make an argument against the city. I though you were calling the city liable.

But yes, lights do deter criminals. That being said, they tend to deter thieves. Violent racists are belligerent sociopaths with little ability to see past their hatred.

true about the racist. Just got back from the pier a few minutes ago and according to one of the regulars when he left the other night. He said that when he left the victims where the only ones left.

I never stay down there alone becuase of really the area and the drug use that goes down there sometimes and the homsexuals who hang out in the woods nothing against them personally except that they stare at ya and come down and start asking you if you are interested and even when you say no they keep bothering you thats my only issue with them at that park

  Haha willy...

I agree. I don't mind being hit on by men but the same goes for us as women.. no means, no!

BTW, if there any speckled trout in your area and you find yourself catching more than you can eat... I'll be happy to take em off your hands. :)

"the same goes for us as in women" implies that I am male. I didn't say the same thing goes for us women. ;) Note the "as in" before women.

As for private contact, you can PM me by clicking yellow notepad next to my name on my vc. Oh and, I'll pay the freight. I love me some specs!
