Two men, aged 20, have been arrested after they allegedly played a pornographic movie at their local Wal-Mart store. The pair put the DVD in a player that was shown on over six screens in the store. It was removed when management was notified by a customer.
Cody Allen Sexton and Kenny Dean Andrews were charged on a felony obscenity complaint. According to a police official, the pair thought they were just pulling a prank. The actual content of the porn movie, or how long it played for, are not reported.
Now their little prank has them faced with a felony that if found guilty will ruin a major part of their lives.
I wonder how they knew where to go to put the DVD in the machine? Someone they know or they themselves had to had work at the store at some point to be able to pull that off.
A felony? Since when is being stupid a felony? Well ok it can be a felony if it causes harm to someone but this was a joke poorly thought out but a joke none the less. Plus this was in Arkansas, maybe if Bill had seen this s in Wallyworld he would have know he “was having sexual relations with that woman.”
Being stupid is a crime, when you know something is a crime, and you do it anyways. :) I think the D.A. should pull a super troopers and make them think they are going to be registered sex offenders and not say a word until the trial, then revealing they are not. That'll teach em a lesson.
I checked a little into why this is a felony and apparently its a Class D and in most places that's anywhere from 6 months to 5 years on jail and/or up to $5000 fine.
That's a little excessive in my opinion. Plus, now these two have to claim that they have a felony on their record anytime they go for employment. Again, I think a little excessive for a minor prank. I mean, if it was Europe you could probably go just watch porn on basic cable at the Walmart.
I guess its just America being uptight again. I wonder when one of the cooler European countries will invade and enforce their laws onto us. That will be a glorious day.
but... they will be registered sex offenders... i figure thats unavoidable... I've read other news articles where some sexting kid was put on the registry... having been in jail many times myself (not for anything sexual), the sentences imposed by judges (especially for atypical crimes) is not just to punish the offender but also to deter others from doing anything comparable... and in this case, the judge will be aware this matter will garner press coverage. It sets a prescedent, parents will be aware of this and will definately warn their rowdy teens.
I suppose the content of the movie and who saw it should have some bearing on the punishment. For example, if some little kids saw a hardcore XXX movie vs. a couple adults watching a soft-core "Skin-a-max" movie. The first could be damaging, the later (I would see as) a funny prank.
So many people are on the sex offender registry now for minor things like this, that the thing is all but useless now. I just searched the registry for people from my town, and got 228 results. Of the 10 that I clicked, 10 were for minor offenses like this one.
1st offense, they won't get any time, probably some probation... so... the other factor to consider, minor voyeurism and exhibitionism if not reprimanded fester over years and years to harmful sexual deviance. These guys are 20, if inappropriate sexual jokes are not put in check, I have heard from girls of guys doing stuff like refusing rides home from remote locations until "something happens" and crap... I understand girls are stupid for putting themselves in that predicament in the first place... we all make mistakes, but having to pay with coerced foreplay is just not right... all from finding it okay to treat sexuality like a joke, because women are objects anyways, right?
lol... just to be a poop disturber, i'm going to say yes... because what I said, in its crudest form is that... but nothing in definite in psychology... its kind of like how MOST serial killers fooled around with killing smaller creatures before they graduated to people....
Back in 2002 I bought a VHS player from walmart. The other models were sold out so, I took the floor model. I didn't check inside the VHS player when I bought it. When I got home and plugged in the player, I was surprised when a movie started playing (without me having put a movie in). I pushed the eject button and to my surprise, an original VHS copy of Debbie Does Dallas came out of the player.
It's not so much the fact that is was porn as much as they exposed it to the public and possibly to children. Porn is legal if its in the comfort of your own home and you don't force is on other unwilling people.
Exposing sexual explicit material to the public and or children is illegal.
It can be argued that exposing children to a natural, instinctive and quite pleasurable human act is far less damaging than exposing them to a man being nailed to wooden post, disemboweled and left for dead.
I agree exposing kids to porn is not a good thing, but exposing your kids to people that shop at Walmart is not a good thing either. I have seen peopleofwalmart.com, it isn't pretty. I find porn a lot less offensive.
