Police Officer Assualts Special Needs Child

An unidentified Dolton, Illinois police officer has resigned after a tape surfaced of him "allegedly" assaulting a special needs student. The victim was Marshawn Pitts, 15, a brain injury survivor.

Pitts was being reprimanded for his shirt not being tucked in. While being addressed by the officer, Pitts pulled away, causing the officer to slam Pitts against lockers and the ground. Pitts's nose was reportedly broken during the incident.

Representatives of the school would not comment on the incident, but explained that they use "techniques that are safe, effective and conform to best practice standards." Pitts's parents are involved in settlement talks and are considering suing.

  I

think the police officer regarded it as better if he resigns for what he made was an exaggeration.

  Gee

I wonder what it looks like when someone is being "allegedly" assaulted? Do they suffer "so called" injuries? Do they get purple marks on them that "appear" to be bruises?

This seems to better pretty popular actions,,,,,

from police officers. I wonder if we need to screen the officer periodically.

  so...

What do you do if an officer gets rough with you, and you KNOW he's in the wrong?

Do you stand up for yourself? Do you resist? Or do you cowardly accept the overuse of power, complain to the higher ups, which will go unnoticed, thereby allowing the abuse continue?

(not saying this in general, im speaking of those rare occasions with corrupt cops)

It must be one of that one bad apple

they keep talking about when cops get busted doing something morally apprehensive. But think of all the good saintly morally centered cops that are being victimized by the media! Yikes! I shall humbly fold my arms and take the beating for the benefit of all the good cops.

protect and serve the state. that's why it always is written:
protect and server...

remember that as long as he serves the state's needs, he can beat your a$$ or any handicap kid all he wants.

You meant morally reprehensible, didn't you?

Oh and, it's protect and serve, not punish and serve. ;)

Why do they use excessive force?

I live in denver and in the last 3 years I have read of atleast 4 police bruality incidents.

in one a man was riding his bike to see his dying mother or grandmother and he brushed aganist a police officer the officer then grabbed the biker and threw him to the ground and started curb checkin him. some guy with a cell phone taped it i believe.....

  Sour & all

"I live in denver and in the last 3 years I have read of atleast 4 police bruality incidents."

I don't condone any police misconduct so please don't think I am minimizing these incidents, but if that is all that has happened in 3 years then it is a VERY small thing. Living in a place as large as Denver do you know how many calls the police respond to each day? My guess would be hundreds on a slow day. Go with a minimum of 100 calls a day (a LOW estimate) time 365 days, so 36,500 minimum calls a year and 3 years living there would be 109,500 calls again at the VERY MINIMUM. Out of that number of calls there has been 4 times the police has been accused of brutality.

Like I said in the beginning I am not condoning any wrong-doing by police but when you put the numbers in prospective it shows there is not some police force that is running amok and beating citizens at every turn. Those numbers weren't even counting the calls that the county or state police are called out to, that was just the City police.

There should be NO cases of police brutality yet sadly that is not the case and some cops do things they shouldn't even think about doing. When you put together the total numbers though it also disproves the falsehood that all cops are running rouge and are bad.
