Kellogg’s Planning to Logo Brand Every Individual Corn Flake

Breakfast cereal giant Kellogg’s has announced a new system to brand their corn flakes with a laser engraved company logo, and thereby distinguishing it from copies.

The system, which uses a laser to concentrate light and results in the company logo being burnt into onto every individual flake, is expected to distinguish the product from the numerous competitors who cash in on the popularity of the product.

An estimated 128 billion bowls of Kellogg's Corn Flakes are consumed around the world on an annual basis.

  And here I thought..

The box did a very good job of telling peeps that Kellogs made cereal inside.

Or flavour, perhaps.

Does this mean Kellogg's is arguing that their expensive brand is indistinguishable from any other brand of flake?

wouldn't this be like... not cost effective in a recession?

Are you suggesting they should let cornflake piracy go unhindered? I say, nay, we must take a stand. Piracy may feel like a victimless crime, but the content providers are losing their incentive to create original content. If we do not stop cornflake copying, soon, there will be no more cornflakes.

  Good Gravy!

I think people are smart enough to know that an unbranded flake wouldn't be a Kelloggs flake. The only thing this is going to do is ruin it when parents buy the off brand name to save money and someone is a brand name snob.

All this is going to do is give them a reason to increase their prices and continue to make the boxes and the product inside smaller as they have been doing the last few years. I think that Kelloggs and Cereal City have finally lost it.

why not just put cocaine in the cereal? That would differentiate it very easily from the knockoffs.. but hmm, then they'd probably start using baking soda.. but then again, they could *sniff out* the difference!

There are some off or store-brand corn flakes that are gross, but I have found a few that are not that bad. There is a brand that is sold at some stores called Our Family and any of the cereals they have are pretty close to the brand name.

I don't live too far from Cereal City(Bttle Creek, MI) and it is a really neat town to visit and depending on the day you never know which cereal you might smell in the air.

Ok I know a thing or 2 about cornflakes

I used to translate for a Corn Flake manufacturer !!!

Kellogg's toast their flakes under a heat source most other Corn Flake producers (like Hahne) air dry them , the flakes being made as a pasta mix shoots out of a cannon at high speed and is cut by a revolving blade which sends a flake flying down an air drier ...

Never thought that would come in useful in a conversation before ...but there you go

Almost all cereals here in Germany are also sold under the Kellogs Brand, with Nestle coming second. Which cereals did taste so disgusting? No-Name products?

  I find Kelloggs..

a little over priced. Some "knock-off" cornflakes are pretty under-cooked but I have found an alright brand for half the price of Kelloggs.

Isn't lasering each flake rather energy inefficient? Way to go in lowering your carbon footprint Kellogs.

Will they have someone checking each flake to make sure the image is burnt properly? "Oops, another one for the discard shute."

No name cereal is something I never get. Despite what our moms told us, you CAN tell the difference between a store brand bowl of Corn Flakes or the real kind.

This is especially true with Fruit Loops, where the no name brand makes you poop blue and green. When I first saw that I thought there was something wrong with me. o_O

The worst store brand is no doubt "EQuality", which is sold at A&P and Food Basics.

I never actually got to see the name on the packaging as I was staying in a hotel but when I did go into grocery stores I did see "normal" kelloggs cereals too

It seemed every hotel had these 3 types of cereal, this gross corn flake knock off, puffed wheat and chocolate pebbles

Puffed wheat was the same as in canada, the chocolate was ok..I wouldnt buy it. (as you said, most likely these ones were no name)
