US Troops to Pay Taliban

US President Obama is set to sign a new defense bill that will authorize US troops to pay Taliban leaders in Afghanistan to switch sides in the conflict .

The system which has been used for some time in Iraq has not yet been implemented in Afghanistan until now. This month has produced the highest number of US deaths in since the beginning of the conflict 8 years ago.

Meanwhile tensions in the country run high in the build up to the second bout of elections following widespread fraud in the first election in favor of President Hamid Karzai.

Just another way for our "Wall Street" government to funnel more tax payer dollars out of the US to further bankrupt the people.

than the $3 billion a day we are paying to keep this nonsense going.

The decline and fall of the USA.

Until I read that Afghan children are being maimed by picking up toy mines, I´ll rest easy that the U.S. is still behaving better than Russia did in that region ... (http://www.nytimes.com/)

The pay will not get the Taliban to switch their koran for a bible or even change their understanding of the koran. Our disagreement with the Taliban is mostly ideological, what difference does it take to get them to change side?

Most religious extremist leaders in my opinion use religion as justification for doing what they want and wrangling power.

I doubt many of them are beyond being bought.

  This is sick

Even more money to get lost in dark channels. The whole war is just a huge plundering of the western taxpayers! Now, additionally to the Billions of drug money, the over-payed military contractors they now also get this! They never get enough until all western society´s are bankrupt! Destroyed by design.

Everyone can be bought in as much as almost everyone will accept free money. These guys came to power through catering hate & fear to their tribe. They are in the business of oppressing women. Burning 100+ schools for girls. Torturing civilians. Oppressing minorities as well as muslim men who dare to shave their face (see torturing civilians). Use the money to buy ammo instead of books. etc..etc..

I fail to see how giving a monster money, will buy him off. Buy him off todo what? to stop being an assh-le?

  My take...

Many (and I can´t possibly quantify that) people in the Taliban and similar organizations in Afghanistan are only in those organizations because they provide an income. The plan is to provide them with an alternate means to feed themselves. This is the same reason why we are letting many poppy farmers continue what they´re doing. If we take away their income, they´re much more likely to work for the Taliban. Apparently, we´re hoping the opposite also holds true.

SUUUUURE, do you really believe that? Who do you think buys all the narcotics. Do you really believe that the hundreds of tons of optium are all smuggled out of the country, without the western forces not knowing where they are going, and not profiting from it? I´m sorry, but some people believe every ridicules explanation by the government because they fear to be called nuts. You seem to be one of them.

Everything I said in my post is a fact. Whether or not we´re exploiting that situation, I don´t know. That´s well above my pay grade.

As for my "believing everything the government says", that´s quite an inference considering nothing I said is even close to that.
