Mother Seeks to Change Law That Allows Parents to Show Porn to their Children

Texas: A woman is seeking to have the law on porn changed after a prosecutor told her that there is no case against her ex-husband under current legislation over an incident in which he showed a video of a threesome to their daughters.

Currently the law provides a specific defense for guardians and parents. According to Tati Santiesteban, a former Senator and criminal defense lawyer who led the drafting subcommittee for the law, parental rights were a major issue.

"Our discussion was about the invasion of privacy into the home - being a parent and wanting to teach my child about sex. Who in the hell is the government to come and tell me what I can show to my children?" said Santiesteban.

  Tough call there
The guy was being a jacka**, sex ed does not require "threesome" videos.

Having said that, he´s a parent, so...I don´t know.

One thing that gets me curious, porn is suppose to be for 18+ audience. If you purposely show it to a minor, wouldn´t that be breaking the law?

  sounds valid
It´s not what I would do. But I see nothing wrong with the mother´s views. Just because it doesn´t match with our sensibilities doesn´t mean it isn´t right.

Just push the definition on ´Porn´ a couple of degrees and we´d end up banning children from:
1) going to naturist camps or
2) seeing 50% of all advertising

  all of the cases
that I have heard of in which an adult shows porn to a child involve the adult grooming the child for sexual relations later. There is clearly no educational value in showing porn to a kid. "Parental rights" do not allow grooming a child for sex which is undoubtedly what this is.

  also
if you look at the source, the guy showed his teenage daughters porn after a night of drinking and instructed them to not tell their mother about it. That kind of undermines the "educational" argument as well.

  @grypthon
I agree that the guys should be punished cuz he obviously had other intentions that were not educational.

Having said that, it´s an isolated incident and shouldn´t warrant a case to change the law entirely.

  This is a tough call....
On one hand showing porn to kids should be a no no but, here parents won´t even allow the schools to teach sex ed and as a result 30% of the high school aged girls are now pregnant. If the schools can´t teach sex ed, the parents that want it taught should absolutely be allowed to teach their children. Threesomes seems a bit overboard for sex ed, but who am I to judge, it happens so they need to know about it. We can teach them or they will find out on their own. I´m going to have to side with parents rights, "We the People" are not property of the Government, the Government is the property of "We the People".

  If...
the father of my child showed my daughter porn while he was drunk he would be eating his own sausage and two veg for breakfast. Cooked and prepared my my good self.

Parents should answer the questions and keep a friendship bond with their kids or they only get confused and mislead.

  Replies + Gryphon& HW Hutchins
I don´t think the law should be changed just because her ex is grooming their daughters for molestation. Instead of messing with the law and making it more difficult for parent´s that already have to watch how they approach their children about sex and other issues because your ex is a douche, why don´t you go to the friend of the court or whatever it is called there and request for supervised visits because of his behavior. This have to change the law for every fart or smile is getting out of hand.

Like redstain mentioned if they keep changing the definition of ´porn´ we will soon have to tiptoe when we actually do teach our children about sex. They have some DVD´s with the subjects that are sometimes difficult for parents to explain. Say a dad has custody of his children and his daughter is getting near the age to start her period(watches single dads run and some will say if someone ever touches my daughter I would shoot him--oops see the other summary)instead of a mumbling, embarrasing explanation they can use the DVD and make it easier on them both.

gryphon- I totally agree that daddy wasn´t trying to teach his daughters about sex, he was preparing them to have sex. Changing the law should be the least of ehr worries, like I mentioned above there needs to be supervised visitations for a long long time.

HW- That is one of the things I was thinking about while writing my comments. We already have a screwed up idea about what is beautiful and everyone has different shapes and sizes so accept the beauty you are and you have.

again, it´s not what I would do..
There´s probably a lot of material I would consider appropriate for sex-ed.

But it´s not a long time ago when people suffered coporal punishment and/or ´damnation´ for masturbation.

Over-legislation serves no one but the legislators who often tend to be the biggest offenders.

I don´t condone this guys behaviour
but i do think that the parent-child relationship is sacred.
To bring in the government to interfere or take over the job of Parent is to ignore its track record that government has as a parent. Can someone say foster care?

Anyway, if everybody here disagrees with this parent and decides that the best way of fixing this is by removing the child from the parent, taking away the parent´s rights: then they should step up to the plate and take over the parenting. It´s easy to play hero and hand those children over to the state that then pays people money to play the role of parent for them... or should i say sweep the problem under the rug. It´s a lot harder to raise a child.

Let parents be parents - let the state not play God - Keep government out of the family!!!!

  @valkyrie, @mexican revolution
am I reading you right? Threesomes happen so kids need to be educated about it? By that logic, they will also need to be instructed in bestiality, necrophilia, "furries", etc. And Mexican, sadly children oftentimes do need to be taken away from their parents, that "sacred" bond is broken when the parents abuse them in various horrible ways. I don´t think the answer is to give all parents free rein to decide to do WHATEVER they want with their own kids under the guise of "education."

  hmmmm
The fathers reasoning is in question in this story, it personally it doesn´t pass the smell test. If the definition keeps changing it will be a crime to explain the the fact of life to a child.

In Euro sex is an accepted fact of life and in Asia they have parades & worship Pen-ii for fertility. In the US tho the topics of sex and sexuality are a forbidden fruit which just makes it sought more.

If one tries to deny a basic part of human nature you will end up with scandalous behaviour. Our sheer number sex offenders already on the books probably greatly outnumber those of other nations.

I grew up with open access to porn. We ran an adult BBS for most of my childhood. I didn´t run out and knock up other kids or become a Sexual Deviant/Rapist/etc. All of which is what many of them claim will happen to kids exposed to such material.

Fact is I´ve had a whole two sexual relationships in my life and I´m currently married the second partner. I just knew how to use it like a pro when the time came.
